[Mandrake 9.1]X crasht regelmatig

Ik zit met een probleem. Mijn X-server crasht regelmatig en neemt het toetsenbord mee, zodat de enige oplossing een reboot is met de reset-knop. Dit is natuurlijk niet echt heel erg fijn.
Waar kan dit aan liggen? Ik heb al een oplossing geprobeerd die in een eerder in een post kwam (alt sysrq r werkt niet, net als alt+sysrq+s,e,i,u,b,k) Oftewel deze opties doen het niet.
cat /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq geeft 1 als output (dat is toch aan?). Dus deze zouden het wel moeten doen. Memtest geeft ook geen fouten in mijn geheugen, dus daar ligt het ook niet aan.

Deze twee bestanden lijken me normaal?
Wat kan de oorzaak zijn van de crashes? Hoe kan ik ze voorkomen en hoe kan ik het oplossen?

Specs:
P3-500, 512 MB SD-Ram (Apacer)
Mandrake 9.1 Relatief vers.
Xfree 4.3.0 (Uit de 1e versie van 9.1, 2 dagen na release binnen gehaald, alle Updates gedaan.)
Verschillende programma die zorgen dat X crasht (oa mozilla)
Videokaart = Trident 3DImage 975 AGP
HD = 20 GB, ook geen fouten.
Als andere dingen ontbreken, vraag het even en dan edit ik het er wel bij.

Geen oplossing voor je probleem, maar wel pijnbestrijdend: heb je geen andere PC van waaraf je even kunt SSH'en om vervolgens netjes te rebooten? SSH draait iha nog wel na een Xserver crash.

Je moet denk ik, nadat je X is gecrasht, rebooten, en dan XFree86.0.log.old eens bekijken. XFree86.0.log geeft namelijk de log van de huidige X sessie weer, en daar heb je weinig aan, omdat ie nog niet gecrasht is.

Verandert z'n sig te weinig.

Nix rebooten. Nix crashen: dat gebeurt niet zomaar in Linux :)

Trek je keybord eruit en doe hem er opnieuw in. Waarschijnlijk zie je dat dat er nix gecrasht is en dat alles weer netjes werkt.
Zorg dat Numlock NIET aangezet wordt door een of ander /etc/init.d/numlock script.

Ik geef je een hele dikke kans dat het hier aan ligt.

Het ligt dus aan mijn keyboard? Zou op zich best kunnen. Heb namelijk gewoon standaard USA 104 toetsenbord ingevuld bij de setup en Numlock staat aan bij opstarten. Vind ik namelijk erg handig. Ik krijg bij wine wel de melding dat mijn toetsenbord niet bekend is en dat ze een benadering doen. Hoe kan ik dan aangeven hoe de lay-out van mijn toetsenbord precies is? Het is geen merk ofzo. Standaard toetsenbord bij een fujitsu-siemens computer van 6 jaar oud.

Ik heb net met xkeycaps mijn layout bepaald. Maar in welk loginscript moet ik nu veranderen dat ie deze layout moet gebruiken en niet die standaard?
Ik moet namelijk ergens een line toevoegen als xmodmap ~/.xmodmap- `uname -n` in het juiste login script, maar ik heb geen idee welke dit is.

Hij deed het net weer: Xfree86.0.log.old bekeken in Kwrite, maar die open niks? Is er een andere manier om dit te bekijken. Vast wel, maar welke?

vesa proberen werkt niet, start X namelijk helemaal niet op. Mandrake ControlCenter en dan Apparatuur --> Display settings. Mijn driver is Trident 3dimage 975 AGP.

Heb je dan ook hetzelfde probleem dan? M.a.w. kun je het probleem ook omzeilen met het opnieuw inpluggen van je keyboard?

Kep eik geen flauw id hoe je dat uit kunt zetten in Mandrake. Mijn distro werkt iets anders en ik heb niet zo heel veel ervaring met andere.

Nope, werkt niet. Heb ik ook al geprobeert. Hij blijft dan meteen hangen. En SSH lukt ook niet (1 keer geprobeerd) Ben er nu achter dat het meestal komt door Mozilla als ie een bestand probeert te downloaden. Dus kan een bug zijn in Mozilla. Maar ik heb het ook een aantal keer gehad met XMMS en Konqueror.

Probeer inderdaad eens (zoals DIS al aangaf) de vesa driver ipv de trident te gebruiken, je moet daarvoor het volgende veranderen:

Hierdoor weet je dan in ieder geval of het aan de drivers van je videokaart ligt of of je ergens anders verder moet zoeken.

X 'crashed' hier ook iets vaker dan me lief is. Met als verschil dat ik X dan wel gewoon via een SSH-verbinding kan killen en opnieuw starten waarna ie weer vrolijk verder gaat...

Nog een app die het goed voor elkaar krijgt op een linux boxje te laten hangen: Wine(X)

Als ik een vesa driver pak, krijg ik helemaal geen beeld meer. Blijkbaar is mijn kaart niet vesa compatible. Met moeite weer in X gekomen. Toen dacht ik, laat ik eens een verse install doen:

Als je Mandrake 9.1 installed en je drukt op ctrl+alt+F1 krijg je een foutmelding te zien:
(runinstall2:9):Gdk WARNING: locale not supported by XLib

En later nog een melding over printrc die niet gevonden kan worden oid (bij de summary)

Misschien dat het hier iets mee te maken kan hebben?
