dnet and war

First of all, sorry for bad english.

I'm from bugtraq.ru distributed.net team.
My friends and me had started anti-war action in dnet project.
We temporary changed country code in our dnet participant profiles to Iraq.
As a result you can see that Iraq grows up from bottom to 30-th place in rc5-72 countries competition on 4 last days.
Four our countries - France, Germany, Netherlands and Russia can't help Iraq to win the war, but can together give it the first place over the united states.
So, if you want to support this action, please change temporary your personal country settings to Iraq.

Hi,

It looks like a nice idea of you, but due to the size of DPC it can be quite difficult to get a good answer of what the participants want.
But invidually a person can always change something in it's name.

Perhaps that's also a way to give support

Like Vinnie said, it's a good idea to change your name in something like Against the war on Iraq. I think that more people will see that instead of the country change to Iraq.

What vital parts did we miss? If the war ends now and the US backtracks, what do you think will happen? So my idea is more to keep this war away from dnet because there are too many opinions on this subject. All it will get in the end is that DPC will be divided, so let people have their opinion while we keep crunching...

... and if we really care about the world why are we doing brute calculation in stead of folding or genome research? I never heard those so called peace guys about that before this war.... Kinda lame to use this project as propaganda, while yer CPU power would have been better use to some other project all the way before...

Do you mean that you are against the war, or do you symphatise with Irak and think that the Iraqi's should win the war
Being against the war is ok(i think most people are), but Saddam still is an evil dictator that should be taken care of.

In my opinion there are better ways to demonstrate Iraqi supremacy over the US than to fraud the statistics of a DPC result. It seems your goal is anti-war, but the result your suggesting is nothing more than an ordinary rat race between Iraq and the US. Its not (the regime in) Iraq that should be supported, it should be the Iraqi people who should get our support. It would be better to start raising funds for the post-war build-up of Iraq rather than starting useless and contraproductive competitions between an electronic Iraq and US

StR: Wekkel has a strong point in that changing your country code to Iraq will, with some, create confusion as to whom we support - the Iraqi people, or their leaders. On the other hand, I strongly disagree that like actions are useless, if only for drawing attention to the matter.

In accordance with Wekkel's idea, I would suggest that you contact d.net and ask if it is possible to designate some post-war-buildup-fund (any UN help fund would do, I presume ) as one of the non-profit targets that resolving the key would generate US $6,000 for. Your campaign could then focus on making people vote for this charity. This would generate some substantial help for the Iraqi people and give us all an extra good reason to crunch more numbers.

Any which way, I would like to thank you for your concern, for reminding us of the variety of forms of action we can take - and for reminding us of our responsibility to do so.

And changing your country code to Iraq is like supporting Saddam Hussein, one of the biggest terrorists in the past decades.
This idea is, in my opinion, quite sick.

(And this doesn't have anything to do with being pro- or anti-war)
