SASI? Waar is het voor?
Shugart Associates developed the predecessor of SCSI, named SASI. Shugard Associates was one of the largest floppy and hard disk drive manufacturers. Since they made a large percentage of the drives in the industry, SASI (Shugart Associates Systems Interface) became the standard hard drive interface. Shugart Associates later became Seagate Technology, Inc.
SCSI was the result of a collaboration effort between NCR (National Cash Register) and Shugart Associates, in 1981. The new "intelligent" interface could manage all of its transmission protocols independently from the rest of the system. Part of the original SCSI interface was based on SASI. However, second generation SCSI eliminated most of the SASI specifications.
