[GPRS] Sony Ericsson T300 als infrarood modem?

Ik overweeg een Sony Ericsson T300 aan te schaffen, met name om de reden dat deze zowel GPRS ondersteunt als een infrarood poort heeft. Ik wil hier gebruik van maken zodat ik ook op mijn Pocket PC (die alleen infrarood heeft en geen bluetooth) kan internetten.

Nu zocht ik op de Sony Ericsson site of het mogelijk is wat ik wil en daar kwam een wat dubeus antwoord uit.

Via http://www.sonyericsson.com ga ik naar de Global Support Area waar ik als telfoon type 'T300' op geef. Dan ga ik naar de Solution finder waar ik op 'pocket pc' zoek. En ja hoor "How to connect the phone with a Pocket PC PDA using a GPRS connection ", hebbes, dacht ik (ik zit nog steeds duidelijk in het T300 onderdeel van de site):

How to configure Pocket PC to work with the modem in the phone (only using Infrared):

Before you start you need to make sure that you have outgoing data activated on your subscription, GPRS coverage from your operator and a subscription that supports GPRS. WAP and GPRS settings must be set up as well.

To set a new connection up on your Pocket PC device:
1. Go to [START] and choose [SETTINGS] and [MODEM]
2. Click [NEW CONNECTION]
3. Select the "Generic IrDA modem" as your modem and set the appropriate baud rate depending on what connection speed your operator supports. If you are unsure, contact your operator.
4. Click [Advanced]
5. Do not change any default settings in the "Connection Preferences" and choose [Next].
6. Enter your ISP phone number. Often this number is *99# for a GPRS connection, check with your operator if you are unsure. Click [Next]
7. In this screen the checkbox "Wait for dial tone before dialing" should be unchecked. If it is, tap [FINISH]
8. Go to the "Dialing" tab and choose [DIALING PATTERNS]
9. In the dialing patterns change all numbers to "G"
You have now finished the connection set-up

Make a Dial-Up connection
1. Go to [START] and select [PROGRAMS]
2. Choose [CONNECTIONS]
3. Find the connection you created above and tap it.
4. Fill in user name and password (if required) and click [CONNECT](the mobile phone must be within IrDA range from the PDA)
5. The Pocket PC device now connects to the Internet using IrDA and your GPRS subscription.
6. Start Internet Explorer or your E-mail program to start using your connection.

Nou geweldig! Maar dan... Wat staat daar onder?

Ten eerst heb ik geen iPaq, maar dat zal geen probleem zijn. Maar waarom staat hier geen T300 bij Ik zoek toch via de T300 support area? Ondersteund de T300 dit nou ook en is hij op dit gebied compatible met een ander type telefoon of kan het nu gewoon niet?

Ik ben dus net bij Belcompany langs geweest (ja je moet wat) en de vraag voorgelegd, maar zij beweren dat GPRS op een Pocket PC alleen kan met de 68i via Bluetooth, dat is leuk, maar hierboven wordt wel duidelijk dat dat iig niet waar is.

Dus, mijn vraag. Heeft iemand de T300 ooit eens als IrDA modem gebruik voor Pocket PC of wat mijn part voor de laptop?

En dan heb ik nog een ander vraagje. Wat is de afstand waarop je je telefoon t.o.v. je laptop/pocket pc moet houden om goed contact te hebben? Paar centimeter?

Ik zelf heb wel eens met GPRS gewerkt met een iPaq icm infrarood en een 6310 nokia. Dat werkt prima, gewoon tegenover elkaar leggen op een vlak oppervlak (in daglicht moet je het idd bij een paar cm houden, hooguit 10). Dat werkt prima, en op zich moet elke foon die GPRS ondersteund en met hayes compatible commando's zijn GPRS verbinding als modem kan aansturen kunnen internetten... Dus het zou gewoon moeten werken, waarschijnlijk is dat document wat outdated...

Ik heb net even naar Sony Ericsson gebeld, die zeiden dat kon. Je moest dan alleen even drivers downloaden van de site. Ook voor de Pocket PC? Ja, ook voor de pocket pc. Goed, die staan er dus niet, maar we nemen maar aan dat het via een Generic IrDA modem allemaal werkt
