Hardeschijf 40gb word niet gedetecteerd

Ik heb een oud beessie op de kop getikt maar hij vind geen 40gb schijf.
Dat wil zeggen: helemaal niet! dus ook niet als een 8gb ofzo.
meer info: amdk6 233 mhz, 96mb ram...
Ik had eerst een oud mobo met een p75 erop en die vond hem wel.
Ik heb al de nieuwste bios gedownd (en geinstalleerd ) en hij doet het
nog niet.
Wie weet wat het probleem kan zijn?

Om welke mobo gaat het exact? CPU en geheugen zeggen to-taal niks over de mobo; er bestaan honderden zo niet duizenden verschillende types So5/7 plankjes

En de HDD: een 40GB 7200rpm Maxtor.. Om welke type gaat het..?
Heb je de CLJ jumper al geprobeerd? Zie Maxtor site voor de settings

misschien iets met de jumperinstelling?...probeer eens te starten zonder jumper ingesteld....ik dacht dat ie dan automatisch op master of single komt te staan

misschien de maximaal herkenbare grote van harddisks overschreden voor dat bord...hkeb die harddisk ook en er zit gloof ik een limitation jumper op
als je die eens gebruikt.....

Veel voorkomend probleem bij oude computers. Kijk maar eens goed rond op www.maxtor.com. Daar heb ik het antwoord ook zonder al teveel moeite kunnen vinden. Er zijn een aantal mogelijkheden, om dit op te lossen. Volgens mij zat er wel een nadeeltje aan het gebruiken van die limitation jumper. Maar dat kun je zelf eenvoudig even opzoeken....

Zelfs als je de harde schijf handmatig instelt in de bios wordt ie niet herkent.
Als de biosinstelling voor alle IDE poorten ingestelt zijn op "auto" wil ie niet doorstarten. Als ze op none staan en je verder boot met MaxBlast II Plus dan wordt de harde schijf wel hierdoor herkent

Capacity of the hard drive is too large for the BIOS to support
On older systems (pre- November 1998) the BIOS may not support drives that are larger than 32 GB. If the ATA hard drive you are trying to install has a capacity larger than what the BIOS can support the drive may not be detected by the system.
To troubleshoot this problem follow these steps.
Enter the system BIOS. This is usually accomplished by pressing the F2, Delete, or F1 key when your system is powering on. When you first turn on your computer look for a on-screen message indicating which key to press to enter Setup.
Select User or User defined and enter:
Cylinders = 1024
Heads = 16
Sectors = 63
LBA Mode or IDE Translation Mode = Normal, Standard CHS, or disabled.
These parameters will tell the system that your drive's capacity is 502 MB or 528 MB, a capacity that most, if not all BIOS's can support.
Save BIOS settings and exit.
Restart the system with MaxBlast Plus II. MaxBlast will install a disk overlay that will allow the BIOS to support the full capacity of the drive.

Note: Windows XP and 2000 users: Please download MaxBlast Plus II version 1.30. Older versions of MaxBlast will not support Windows XP and 2000

Of je gaat met de cylinder limitation jumper aan de slag.

Hier zegt Maxtor het volgende over:

If your system hangs after installing the new Maxtor hard drive - either before or after setting the system BIOS - this may be an indication that the BIOS has a capacity barrier or cylinder limitation and does not correctly support the hard drive's capacity. This could also be caused by a conflict with another device on the same cable as the new drive. For either of these conditions, try the following:
Remove any device that is on the same cable with the new drive and try booting with the Maxtor drive configured as the only drive. Use the master or cable select jumper setting and make sure your BIOS is set to auto-detect. If this step resolves your problem then you will need to make sure the jumper settings - such as Master, Slave, or Cable Select - are properly set for both devices (or put the other device on a seperate ATA cable by itself). If this doesn't solve your problem proceed to step 2.


Remove the new drive and install its Cylinder Limitation Jumper. Please refer to the diagrams below for this setting. Reinstall the drive (preferably as the only device for troubleshooting purposes) and reboot the system. If the system no longer hangs, use the MaxBlast Plus software to prepare the hard drive. The application of the Cylinder Limitation jumper will NOT decrease the capacity of the hard drive as long as the MaxBlast software is used to partition and format the drive. Please reference Answer ID 508 for detailed MaxBlast installation instructions.

NOTE: Go to the Product Support Download Page to download the latest version of the Maxblast Software.

NOTE: Some Operating Systems may NOT function properly when the Cylinder Limitation Jumper is applied (e.g., Windows NT, Linux, etc.). Refer to the links at the end of the page for a possible solution if you experience problems.

nu daar gewoon effe een jumpercap overheen zetten, en klaar is kees

Die schijf is dan mijn slave schijf. Als ik hem niet aansluit dan boot de pc wel (wordt alles netjes herkent in bios) Maarzodra ik die maxtor schijf aansluit kan ik in bios geen enke schijf meer herkennen ook de cd rom spelers worden niet herkent en windows XP wordt niet geboot.

Zou ie dan dood zijn?

Klinkt meer als conflicterende IDE apparaten... Klooi eens wat met master/slave settings, en primary/secondary channel.

er is maar 1 juiste oplossing voor dit probleem en dat is een losse ide controller in een pci slot alle overige software oplossingen geven te veel problemen en zijn niet echt bruikbaar.

hierna kan je weer 4 ide apparaten aansluiten op dma 133.

Ik heb eenzelfde probleem. Een 80GB schijf van maxtor erin gezet, wordt niet herkend door de bios. Vervolgens maxblast gedraaid, die herkent hem wel. Dus ik die schijf geformatteerd/gepartitioneerd (4*20gb), maar als ik reboot heb ik mijn oude C:\ nog, en een E:\, die slechts 2MB groot is. Nou las ik ergens dat dit een kleine partitie is waar maxblast wat tempfiles op gooit. Hoe kan ik zorgen dat ik de volle 80 gig tot mijn beschikking heb zodat ik er windows op kan installeren?
