Here's the background. For the last couple of weeks, I have been struggling trying to get my KT-7 Raid based system stable. I use my PC for audio and video editing, and want to use all the PCI slots, RAID, USB, AGP and the ISA slot. When I have more than a few PCI cards in the box, the system becomes unstable.
The nitty gritty is this. Cards which share an IRQ also share a bus mastering signal. The KT133 chipset has problems with the sharing of bus mastering signals - in short, it cannot do it and remain stable.
This means if you install two PCI bus mastering cards in slots which share an IRQ (and hence a bus master signal), you cannot expect stability. What may appear to be IRQ sharing issues may in fact be down to this bus-mastering problem.
I pointed out to the technical support representative that this is obviously a pretty fundamental issue, and if ABIT are aware of it they should post something on their website to alert users. The representative agreed, and said that something would be forthcoming.
