Vage systeemmap in W98SE

Ik ben mijn systeem maar weer eens aan het uitmesten, en kom daarbij een map tegen, die mij nog niet eerder was opgevallen. Het is een verborgen map met de naam "Config.Msi".

Ik werk met meerdere schijven en partities, en deze map bevindt zich in de root van mijn D: partitie. Bij mij is dat de eerste primaire partitie op de tweede harde schijf. In die map bevinden zich nu 120 bestanden, allemaal van de vorm "219??.rbf". Dus eerst "219", dan nog twee hexadecimale cijfers (dus 0-9 of a-f), en als extensie ".rbf". De bestanden hebben uiteenlopende groottes, gemiddeld enkele tientallen KB's, maar ook enkele honderden KB's, en zelfs twee van 1 en 2 MB. De oudste is van 1988 (!) maar de meeste zijn tussen de twee jaar en vier maanden oud.

Wat is dat voor een map?! En waarom zit hij op de D-schijf?

Het heeft dus iets met Oracle te maken. Kan dat door de Adabas-component van StarOffice komen? Dat heb ik namelijk wel eens getest...

A. Microsoft's developers, in their infinite wisdom and generosity, created this folder and these files on your system to allow you to back out of an upgrade to Office 2000. In the event that you experience problems with your installation, these files allow you to uninstall Office 2000 and go back to your previous version of Office.

If you are confident that your Office program is working properly, you can delete this folder and all the contents.

I would suggest that you may just want to rename the folder to config.msi.old and see how things go for a week or so. If all is well, go in and reclaim that disk space.

Ik heb inderdaad Word 2000 geïnstalleerd, en ik ga beslist niet meer terug naar Word 97. Dus, wissen die handel... :-)
