Universal Serial Bus 2.0 Support in Windows 2000

SYMPTOMS
You may experience any of the following symptoms:
Your Hi-Speed Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 device does not operate in Hi-Speed mode.
An Enhanced Host Controller Interface-compliant (EHCI-compliant) USB host controller appears in Device Manager with an exclamation point in a yellow circle, or with status code 28.
CAUSE
These symptoms occur because Windows 2000 does not include support for EHCI host controllers.
RESOLUTION
To install USB 2.0 support in Windows 2000, visit the Microsoft Windows Update Web site. If the Windows Update Web site detects a compatible controller, you can install the following updated driver from the "Driver Updates" section:
Microsoft USB Driver Version 5.1.2600.0

NOTE: The Microsoft USB 2.0 driver may not be listed as an available update if third-party USB 2.0 drivers are installed on your computer. You may have to remove the third-party USB 2.0 drivers, and then install the Microsoft USB 2.0 driver from the Windows Update Web site.

Click Find driver updates for hardware devices.
Click Other hardware.
In the Manufacturer name box, click Microsoft Corporation.
In the Operating System box, click Windows 2000 family.
Click Search.
Download the driver that is named "Microsoft USB Driver Version 5.1.2600.0."
Note that the Windows 2000 version of this driver is 107 KB in size. The Microsoft Windows XP version of this driver is 290 KB in size.
