Actiontec op 5.5 mbit zetten

Heb een Wireless ActionPoint met een bijbehorende PCMCIA-kaar voor in m'n laptop. zie http://www.hastec.nl/acti...wireless_access_point.htm voor meer info.

Het bereik valt me een beetje tegen. Nu denk ik dat als ik de snelheid op 5.5mbit zet, ipv. 11mbit dat het allemaal nét iets meer bereik heeft. Denk ik zo goed? En hoe kan ik instellen dat ie op 5.5mbit moet gaan lopen?

Dit gebeurt niet automatisch. Als ik ver wegloop met de laptop in m'n hand, dan gaat ie in één keer 'offline'. Er wordt dus NIET gekeken of de connectie wel mogelijk is op 5mbit.

Ik wil 'm dus altijd op 5.5mbit hebben staan. Hoe?

Volgens http://www.pulsewan.com/data101/802_11_b_basics.htm zou het automatisch moeten gaan en kan het zelfs niet anders :

"To support very noisy environments as well as extended range, 802.11b WLANs use dynamic rate shifting, allowing data rates to be automatically adjusted to compensate for the changing nature of the radio channel. Ideally, users connect at the full 11 Mbps rate. However when devices move beyond the optimal range for 11 Mbps operation, or if substantial interference is present, 802.11b devices will transmit at lower speeds, falling back to 5.5, 2, and 1 Mbps. Likewise, if the device moves back within the range of a higher-speed transmission, the connection will automatically speed up again. Rate shifting is a physical-layer mechanism transparent to the user and the upper layers of the protocol stack."
