Ik heb Debian met KDE3 het werkt allemaal perfect maar af en toe loopt XFree compleet vast. Het beeld veranderd dan in allemaal rare strepen die diagonaal over me beeld lopen.Het beeld is dan compleet niet meer herkenbaar.Het enigste wat ik dan nog kan is rebooten.
Het lijkt erop dat het alleen voorkomt als ik iets selecteer en dan in mijn window ga scrollen met de scrollbar, zowel met tekst als met plaatjes (in te gimp)

Je XF86Config is een stuk leesbaarder als je [ code ] tags gebruikt.

Wat voor een videokaart zit er precies in? Misschien is de "ati" driver een betere keuze dan de "radeon" driver?

Heb ik al geprobeerd maar dan heb ik hetzelfde probleem.
Er zit een ati radeon mobile m6 in.
Verder doet Directfb het nu wel en die deed het met de ati driver niet

Debian Unstable? Daar zit nu weer een iets nieuwere X in, (heel) misschien dat het helpt als je upgrade.

Other than that: das een hele recente XFree, en volgens de XFree site is de radeon serie ondersteund in XF 4.2.0 door de "ati" driver...
Verder, wat bedoel je precies met "doet Directfb het nu wel" ?
En probeer voor de gein je AGP mode eens op 1 te zetten...

Toen ik de ati driver gebruikte moust ik enabledirectfb op false zetten anders kwam er geen zinnig beeld uit. Met de radeon driver doet directfb het wel.

Ik heb hem geupgrade maar het helpt niet.

Ik had eerst de ati driver maar die vertoond hetzelfde probleem.

Na de upgrade doet hij het trouwens wel anders. Als ik nu iets selecteer in the gimp mbv van the magic siccor en dan ga ik scrollen dan beeld hij de seletie telkens na elkaar af tot in het oneindige en dan moet ik resetten. Het lijkt alleen te gebeuren als ik veel punten heb geselcteerd als ik er maar een paar heb geselecteerd heb ik er geen last van.

Ik ga morgen nog wel even proberen wat er gebeurt als ik de radeon driver zonder direct frame buffer gebruik.

Je bedoelt Option "UseFBDev" ? Das iets anders dan DirectFB namelijk. En meestal is het het nuttigst om "UseFBDev" uit te zetten (er zijn uitzonderingen).

En heb je dat probleem alleen in The Gimp? Dan is het misschien een probleem van Gimp zelf namelijk...

oke dan heb ik in iedergeval weer wat geleeerd.
Ik heb het in het begin ook wel eens met openoffice gehad maar ik kan dat niet meer recronstueren. Op dit moment heb ik het dus alleen bij the gimp.

gimp 1.3 geinstalleerd zelfde probleem. Ik ken een jongen met dezelfde laptop en hij heb dezelfde XFree config maar daar loopt hij niet vast (hij gebruikt gentoo)

Dit is zijn config op de usbmouse na die ik dus nu ook gebruik.
Hij gebruikt de FBdev functie dus niet.
Hij heeft XFree 4.2.0

En als je eens als driver "vesa" instelt? Die is waarschijnlijk trager, maar het kan helpen het probleem te isoleren.

Als ik de vesa driver gebruik werkt hij inderdaad wel alleen is het scrollen nu wel erg traag. De radeon driver is dus niet goed. Hoe kan ik hier een bug report van opsturen? bedankt in ieder geval

Oh, heb je sinds die nieuwe XFree al de "ati" driver geprobeerd? Die moet je volgens de XFree site hebben namelijk.

The newer Rage 128 and Radeon chips are not yet supported by this driver. Rage 128's and Radeon's are, however, supported by separate drivers, and owners of such adapters should consult the documentation provided with these drivers. This driver will also invoke the appropriate driver if it finds Rage 128 and/or Radeon adapter(s) in the system.

Mja, goh dat de ati driver hetzelfde probleem geeft :+
Uit het stukje dat je quootte:
This driver will also invoke the appropriate driver if it finds Rage 128 and/or Radeon adapter(s) in the system.
Magoed, de driver is waarschijnlijk het probleem dus.
Comment de modules glx en dri eens uit in je config?

Ik heb Xfree 4.2.1 geprobeerd te compilen, dat mislukte. Toen heb ik 4.2.0 maar gedownd en daar draait het perfect. Dus je kun 4.2.0 proberen.

Ik heb wat gegoogled, en kwam oa iemand tegen die problemen had met DRI.

glx is de X module die OpenGL verzorgt, en dri is de X module die bepaalde hardware acceleratie (eigenlijk alleen 3D accel) via de kernel verzorgt.

Zonder dri heb je wel OpenGL, maar dan in software gerenderd, en zonder glx heb je helemaal geen OpenGL. Je kunt proberen glx weer aan te zetten, dan weet je of het alleen aan DRI ligt of niet.

De acceleratie van DRI zelf gaat via de kernel, dus bij het goed werken van DRI speelt ook je kernel een rol. Welke kernelversie draait die vriend van je, en welke draai jij?
