Flash 6 player penetration

Hier kan je zien hoe het met de Flash 6 player staat. Dat onderzoek is echter van Juni. Weet iemand waar ik wat recentere cijfers kan vinden?

Ik sta hier altijd verbaast van 't aantal reacties... werkelijk enorm!

Ik mag aannemen dat Macromedia (de fabrikant van Flash) als eerst deze cijfers onder ogen krijgt... Als er dus nieuwe cijfers bekend zijn mag ik aannemen dat je ze daar kunt vinden. Het aantal reacties valt dus IMHO wel te verklaren

Dat zijn nou eenmaal de laatst vrijgegeven cijfers die min of meer betrouwbaar zijn

Don't normally reply to OTs (or much of anything, for that matter), but
I do have something to say about this subject, which seems to come up
frequently.
I have been developing multimedia since 1985. At that time we were all
worried about the penetration of PCs vs. Apple. Then we worried about
whether anyone had videodisks. Then the next big thing was whether
anyone
had--get this--a CD Rom (the seminal JEDI CD project, as well as Payson
Steven's NOAA data CD--which got a standing ovation in the United States
Senate--were built when there were probably 10 CD-ROMs installed on the
planet--you had to get a special box for the things and start a tape
player to coordinate the audio). We were lucky if the user had an AT. Then we
had to worry about the 64,000 color thing, after that it was the 16 million
color thing. Bloat was always a problem (10, 20 floppy discs for Corel
Draw 2--version 3 had *gasp* a CD!). And what about the turf wars between
Allen Communication's Quest, Macromind's (now Mother's) Director, and
Metropolis?

Then we all had to go out and mortgage the house so we could buy a
$130,000 Avid Media Composer that had 2 gigs of hard drive and no titling tool.
After that, along comes WinSocket and Mosaic--what a panic that caused--even
while everyone was transferring data at 256 bytes/second. Then the most
salacious of them all--the Internet tools.

The truth is this: Don't confuse the medium with the message. You don't
use a stretch limo to deliver food to famine-stricken Ethiopia, you don't
use a camel to deliver a proposal to CitiCorp (unless there is some hidden
advertising method involved). Keep ahead and/or abreast of the
curve--after all, you would expect your doctor to know the latest treatments for
illnesses, wouldn't you?

Some of the best books ever written were done with pen and paper, not
with a word processor. Likewise, I would hazard that none of the world's best
word processor operators ever wrote a bestselling book. The secret is in the
sauce, not in the spoon....It's like building a road across a desert.

Sure, there's nothing there, but after you build the road, lo! up pops a gas
station in the middle of nowhere. That is the very nature of innovation,
and there is no getting away from the risks or benefits it bestows. It
always was and always will be a crap shoot, even when you're playing the odds.
(Come on, 7!) So the question is, do you feel lucky?

Ik zou data van Macromedia zelf uberhaupt niet echt als "betrouwbaar" bestempelen...

Zoals je kunt zien komt de data ook niet van MacroMedia, maar staan de uitkomsten op hun server. En als ik ze zo bekijk lijken ze me aardig reeel.

Ik ben bang dat het halfjaarlijkse cijfers zijn, ofzo. Schiet niet op. Nouja, ik verwacht in iedergeval iets van 80% penetration over een maandje of misschien twee... Maar ik ben (soms) een optimist. Hoe dan ook: Flash Player 6 gebruik vertoond een stijgende lijn en Flash Player 5 een dalende...

Btw: Waxle, cool die quote. De persoon die dat schreef heeft 'm wel door.

Da's een ietwat vertekend beeld dat je zo schetst, flash 5 content werkt natuurlijk ook in flash 6 player.

Overigens als wij onze eigen statistieken bekijken, dan valt me op dat het percentage mensen die versie 6 van de Flash Player hebben een stuk _lager_ ligt dan hier word beweerd, tussen de 35 en de 40%. Ons publiek is ook een betere doorsnee van de gemiddelde jan-met-de-korte-achternaam-en-een-pc-van-de-appi-heijn (nofi)

Blijft een beetje een kip-en-ei situatie, als je interesante content bouwt alleen voor flash mx, dan zullen mensen natuurlijk eerder geneigd zijn over te stappen, maar aan de andere kant schrikt het ook mensen af, weer een player install. Hoewel dat natuurlijk met Internet Explorer ( 97.7% van al onze bezoekers ) als een eitje gaat.

Daarbij wil ik wel even kwijt dat * oh,when? fan is van de flashcomm server
