Na een verse installatie van Windows XP Pro met Service Pack 1, blijkt dat PGP desktop security v7.x NIET meer wil installeren.
Een window met volgende melding verschijnt:
"PGP Desktop Security 7.x is incompatible with this version of windows. Please contact nai"
Na enig zoeken, kwam ik in de alt.security.pgp de discussie tegen over WinXP SP1 en PGP.
De volgende oplossing werd aangedragen:
Run the self extracting .exe for your PGP 7.1.x installer. When the
Microsoft "PGP Desktop Security 7.x is incompatible with this version of
windows" dialog comes up, do not press cancel but go to look for your
temporary files folder.
Mine for example is:
C:\Document and Settings\username\Local Settings\temp
in it there should now be a new numbered folder PGPnnnn & within that a
folder called Disk1 .
Copy the Disk1 folder elsewhere. You may now press Cancel at the
dialog.
Now look in your copies Disk1 folder and find the files PGPdisk.exe &
PGPnet.exe . Temporarily move the two elsewhere. Make sure it is the
.exe files that you move and not some others. Now run the setup.exe in
the Disk1 folder . It will this time bring up the NAI "This install has
detected that you are running Windows XP" dialog, click OK. Now move
the two files back to where they were & proceed with the setup.
This works because the application compatibility stuff activates when it
sees you run setup.exe in a directory which contains either a
PGPdisk.exe or a PGPnet.exe (with a product name of PGPsomething, made
by Network Associates & with a version number of 7 ). But what you have
just done is to run a setup.exe without those files, so nothing is
triggered, then you put back the files in order to complete the setup.

Bij mij werkte deze aanpak en ik kan weer lekker aan de encrypte mail etc.
Dus doe er je voordeel mee.
