[DVD] JVC XV-515GD Regio vrij maken.

Ik ben al een tijdje op zoek naar een methode om mijn DVD speler regio vrij te maken.
Na afgelopen zaterdag een topic op de Frontpage te hebben gelezen kwam deze intresse weer wat boven drijven en ging ik op zoek. Nog die zelfde dag liep ik tegen het volgende stukje aan:

JVC XV-511

INSTRUCTIONS ARE STRAIGHT FROM JVC. WILL NOT HARM YOUR DVD PLAYER
1. Make sure there is no Disc in the tray.
2. Shut off the unit and unplug it from the AC outlet.
3. Press and Hold the 'Play' and 'Open/Close' keys, simultaneously on the player and not the remote control.
4. While holding these keys, plug the AC cord back into the outlet. (TEST and CPU ver# will appear on the display)
5. Release these keys and then press '3D-Phonic' key on the player.
6. When 96KHz appears on the display, initialization is complete.
7. Press the 'Power' button to turn the unit off.
8. Press the 'Power' button to turn the unit back on. (Your player should be functioning properly now.) If the above procedure does not work, please consult a JVC technical support.
FOR MULTI REGION:
If you want multi region, please complete the following procedure:
Perform the above step 1 ~ 4 5. Release the "Play" and "Open/Close" keys.
6. Press DVD Menu twice on the remote.
7. When the display reads 000 5858 use the up and down buttons to change the 000 to 02E.
8. Using the Left and Right arrow buttons, change the last four digits until they read 0000 for Region Free, 0101 for Region 1, 0202 for Region 2 or 0404 for Region 4.
9. Press Enter on the player.
10. Press Standby and wait 5 seconds.
11. Press Standby again. Your player is now set to the region you requested. If you find some titles do not play on the region 0 setting, you may have to hard select the appropriate region. Enjoy.

En hoewel De XV-511BK en de XV-515GD uiterlijk exact gelijk zijn, en het eerste stukje perfect werkt op mijn speler, krijg ik niet het menu zoals het beschreven staat.

Verder zoeken dus. Zo kom ik terecht op: Dvd.Box.sk. Hier staat het volgende stukje:

selfmade hack

1. Remove the top cover.
2. Locate wire jumper B532 o the printed circuit board nearby the front panel, it can be found just underneath the connector linking this board with the one above.
3. Cut bridge B532.
4. Apply power, PW (Password) appears on the display.
5. Enter the code 5963 with the remote controller, PW OK will be displayed.
6. Switch the set off and on ... and it will be zonefree !!!

Important information
It seems that JVC received some complaints from the software industry that these players were much too easy to modify and they had to change the design to prevent further 'multi-zoning'! All sets with a serial number starting with 134xxxxx or 144xxxxx will normally need a new PROM to make them a real multizone machine! Don't despair if you have one of the newer types because there's a hidden multizone 'backdoor' ! Yes, the above mentioned modification will still work after you plug in the power cord, at this moment the set will play all zones as long as you don't switch it off with the standby button, once this happens it will be back to zone 2 and you'll need to unplug/plug in the power cord again to get it back to multizone.

Hiermee kom ik een heel eind verder en die "wirejumper" heb ik inmiddels gevonden. Echter mijn serienummer valt in de serie 154xxxxx en zou dan dus zelfs nog later komen dan de series genoemd in het stukje.

En daarbij heb ik ook geen idee of dit uberhaupt wel zou kunnen. Is er iemand die hier ervaring mee / een betere kijk op electronica heeft?

Euh... ja... dat is dus exact wat ik hierboven ook al had gezegd, maar toch bedankt.

Nee, eigenlijk hoopte ik dat iemand mij met enige zekerheid kan zeggen dat dit een heel waarschijnlijke oplossing is (of juist heel onwaarschijnlijk) .

Eigenlijk vrij nutteloos van mij om nu nog te reageren, maar ik wil het toch even kwijt:

Ik heb het toch maar geprobeerd, en met een klein tangetje het draadje doorgeknipt. (ik dacht what the hell, als het niet werkt soldeer ik er weer wat overheen )

En ik moet zeggen; ik had het niet verwacht maar hij doet het nog

en nog veel beter, hij is nu regio vrij!!!

Dus, voor iedereen die een XV-515 heeft, en deze will unlocken: hierboven vindt je de oplossing. Dit schijnt ook te moeten werken voor de XV-511, maar dan kun je beter het AB truukje eerst proberen!!
