DFI AK-75 EC upgrading troubles

ik heb momenteel een duron 933Mhz (7x133Mhz) op mijn KT133A moederbord steken

ik had dit moederbord gekocht vooral vanwege zijn upgradebaarheid naar toekomstige processors (de KT133A was toen net uitgekomen en stond daar toen voor bekend, in tegenstelling tot de KT133)

maar na de website van mijn moederbordfabrikant wat te doorspitten, blijkt dit jammergenoeg niet zo te zijn

ik heb dfi hiervoor dan ook gemailed, maar het antwoord vond ik nogal negatief (vandaar dat ik nu een 2e mening wil van jullie)

volgens DFI blijkt dus dat ik op mijn revisie van moederbord MAXIMUM een amd thunderbird 1.3Ghz kan steken (de meest warme en stroomvretende dingen ooit)

ik heb de handleiding net nog eens doorspit en kwam toen op het volgende uit:

de maximale multiplier die ik kan kiezen is 12.5, dit levert in combinatie met een 133Mhz fsb een 1662.5Mhz processor op (een leuke palomino dus bv)
er zit ook een switching voltage modulator op die automatisch een voltage kiest tussen 1.100V en 1.850V (ook dus meer dan goed genoeg voor een eventuele palomino)
In de handleiding staan devolgende processors ondersteunt:
AMD Athlon/Duro, 100/133Mhz (200/266Mhz DDR) FSB processor (600/650/700/750/800/850/900/950Mhz, 1Ghz, 1.3Ghz or future processors)
maar future processors zijn blijkbaar nooit ondersteund geworden

nu is mijn vraag:
hoe groot is de kans dat een palomino gewoon wel werkt in mijn systeem?
en heb ik kans om op 1 of andere manier mijn moederbord toch om te wisselen in een nieuwe revisie? (misschien met die zin van future processors in de handleiding?)

2. You might encounter cannot boot up problem if you using newer Athlon XP/Palomino CPU.
Rev.D/E is PCB change, cannot hardware modify from A/B/C. Sorry, we cannot swap D/E for your A/B/C. Sorry to inform you that thank you and have a nice day.

Downgrade to a version that is made for REV A/B?
Or keep on upgrading to the newest version on the bios page?

2) Actually I cant live with ur answer that the Thunderbird is the last upgrade on my motherboard possible...

So I wonder: this powergood data of the palomino, does it make the upgrade completely impossible? Or do you just not support it? (While it may work anyway) Or is there anyway I can modify my motherboard so it does support it? (and loose warranty offcourse) Or is there any way I can exchange my REV A motherboard for a newer REV D/E type?

I hope I will still be able to do a better upgrade then the thunderbird, cause the fast thunderbirds were the most powerhungry and most heating CPU's ever and I don't want to install windtunnel on it to keep them cool, for just that tiny little bit extra speed then that I have now...

Problem_Description=I have more a question then a real problem since my system is working perfectly like it is now...

First of all:
on my motherboard stands: REV. A
I only saw this very recently and never paid atention to it while doin bios upgrades I've updated my bios every time you released a new version, but now i discovered that all latest bios were only for newer revisions?

so my question: does it matter that i flashed my bios with a bios for newer revisions? and do you advise me to continue doing this or to try flashing it back to an older version that supports my revision?

My second question then:
I bought this motherboard because it promised a good upgradebility (VIA KT133A can support all new athlon processors till now)

BUT
when i looked on your website's processor support page
(http://sj.dfi.com.tw/supp...port%20List/CPULstAMD.htm) it seems like you guys havent been doing much to support all those new processors (REV A/B/C only support athlon till 1.3Ghz, and REV D/E only till
1.9Ghz)
when i look in the bios upgrade page however, i see the following
changelog:
AK75-EC D & E AK75EC0311.ZIP (154 KB) 2002/3/11 To support AMD
Athlon XP 2100+ CPU.

this bios is for REV D/E, but i flashed my motherboard succesfully with this bios (and even futher)

So my most important question is: What is the fastest CPU i can put in my motherboard? Since i bought this motherboard for its upgradebility i was hoping it would at least support all athlons including the new 0.13Micron ones (that are the ones i wanne upgrade to actually)

I hope you guys havent fooled me with ur advertising and that my motherboard CAN support these processors

PLEASE mail me back with a REAL, studied answer (so not that you dont know and thne just tell me it wont work)

BTW: I wanne add the following: atm i am a very happy person with that DFI motherboard of yours, it wasnt very expensive, its quite stable, and not slow either plz dont change my opinion on DFI by having a bad upgradabilety, or by having a bad customer support

KT133A is inderdaad in verschillende revisies uitgebracht. De eerste revisie(s) ondersteunen in principe geen Palomino's en Thoroughbreds, alhoewel dat sommigen wel is gelukt (veelal met de welbekende Abit KT7A; hierover zijn topics te vinden). Je zou inderdaad een poging kunnen wagen. Maar ik zou eerder doorsparen voor een compleet nieuw mobo + CPU + geheugen

Wat betreft omwisselen, ik geef je weinig kans. Je hebt overigens wel een groot kans dat je de laatste revisie krijgt, als je effe "per ongeluk" je mobo molt en dan terugstuurt voor garantie. Maar dat is achteraf eigenlijk niet echt netjes..

kwas 1 van de eersten met de kt133A chipset in europa,
dus ik denk dat de garantie al wel is afgelopen

en ik ben niet zo iemand die zich iedere 2 jaar een volledig nieuwe pc kan permitteren

vandaar dat ik ook dit moederbordje had gekocht omdat ik het zo goed kon upgraden (NOT dus)

en als er in de handleiding letterlijk staat dat ie ook future processors gaat ondersteunen en ze doen dit uiteindelijk niet, kan ik dan niks forceren?

Nee, dat denk ik niet. Je kan de wel CPU terugsturen naar de winkel en dan inruilen voor iets anders (mobo, geheugen, videokaart, etc.. maar geen geld). Ook zou je de CPU kunnen bewaren en dan doorsparen voor een nieuw moederbord + DDR geheugen.

Maar, nogmaals, ik zou toch afwachten en doorsparen. Wanneer de Hammers eenmaal op de markt zijn (eerste kwartaal 2003), dan zullen de prijzen van de huidige Palomino's, Thoroughbreds en aanverwante moederborden zeker zakken. Dan kun je je slag slaan

ik heb nu veel goed geheugen
ik heb een goed moederbordje voor de rest
en ik heb een goedkope duron 800 met in het gedacht die nadien voor een leuke prijs goed te kunnen upgraden

ik binnekort zeker nog geen nieuw moederbord + geheugen + processor kopen aangezien ik dat nog niet de moeite vind (mijn vorige pc was een p200mmx)
