As my broken family (TA) tries to heal itself, I say congratuations to the DPC for their outstanding competition. If at what point you do go to #1, your wonderful efforts will have paid off. I hope your family doesn't have the pains that ours has had (is having).

Take care all....

Dear Engineer & other TA crackheads,
I just read DanC's thread at your place and was puzzled- not nice. I hope the few DPC trollz didn't cause this (but I estimate DanC stronger & smarter than that), and hope he changes his mind (or was just joking).
DanC and, if that's an issue, all of TA, will most surely get out of a crisis (if any) again. There's always -by definition- some sort of fundamental up and down swing in any big enough society, team, system or, if you will, organism, so a dip is just proof there'll be another high for you guys! Keep on crackin'or else the comp will soon be very boring for every one of us :(. Cheers, Zpottr.

Zpottr,
Thank you for your kind words. I have not decided what to do. I want to belong to a winning team. Unfortunately, many of my colleages do not.
I may discontinue rc5 altogether. In fact, I probably will not do distributed computing ever again.
Many of you have been very kind. Many of you I have had disagreements with, and we have worked them out.
I will say this. You - the DPC understand the meaning of the word TEAM.
That impresses me more than you know. Some of you won't care. - but I understand :)
I'm not always pleasant.
I do know a formidable opponent when I see one. I wish you all the best of luck. I think it may be better for me to concentrate on my marriage, my job, and my trout. It's alot less hassle.

Cheers.

I really hope you can work out your problems (As Team Anandtech).

As what I said in TA forums. I wish you would come back DanC.
I know it is hard to look at our team right now and have respect for some of our members. But that doesn't mean you have to quit. Just walk all over them in the stats. Nothing gets them more uptight then that.

I know I can't put out as many blocks as you. But I have my reasons. For 1st place.... It would be nice. But we all know we can't have it all the time and of course..... there is no way we can have it with the team the way it is right now.

Last week was probly the most normal week we have had in over a 2 month span. I liked it. We actualy worked together as a team for a change. Even tho the #'s seemed to go down. It seemed as tho the team was working together to do what they can.

Anyways. DanC, I would like to see you come back. But if you need to take care of things. That is ok too. Just don't become a stranger. Take care.

What's the point?
The DPC have show a number of things I admire.
1. Team spirit
2. Manangement
3. Communication.

I already make a dandy living doing these things in the real world. Why beat my head against the wall? - My own "teammates" attack every single idea I have, every attempt to bring TA together.

DPC will win this thing. They have achieved a high-performance team. This is something I admire above all else.

Congratulations... Despite the fact that I have been a jerk to you guys - you are all I admire in business. :)

Too bad the battle has soured me on the competition.

I for one would hate to see you leave TA. Certainly i didn't allways agree the way you posted but that was mostly tactics i think, and it was never boring.

Sorry to see it didn't work out for you or TA, just hope you will change your mind.

Jolly - thank you for your kind words.
This will be my last post to your forum (in any language)
Many of you hate me. That is because, as Jolly points out - I have used "tactics"
It's what I do. My former 'teammates' do not appreciate my efforts, and I therefore will go do what I do in the real world.

I must say, I admire what you have done. You have captured the essence of what a "Team" is. You will - therefore win.

Unfortunate that I've been unable to instill the same in my former compatriates. Best of luck to you all - and I apologize sincerely for any disparaging remark you may have seen, or percieved in any of my posts. I have the utmost respect for you - and I wish you well.

DanC - for the last time.

Mythology

RC5 is a very long term program, whom's teams slowly evolve from nothing to state-of-the-art (DPC) or vice-versa (/.). Nobody should be discouraged because thing's aren't working out on short term. The project has such a large momentum that it's difficult to change keyrates on a instant.
Team's should stay team's, no matter what's being said, ít's the solid key-rate that counts.
I hope nobody leaves a team (either DPC or TA) because things aren't turning out the way as expected.

DanC, you're a worthy opponent. Somehow I hope you'll remain part of RC5.... (It will make me proud of being a collegue in the same project) :)

DanC,

Although i know that you won't react anymore, i just hope that you will continue to read this thread. I've read the discussions on the AnandTech board and was shocked to see so much discussions about the late problems on the 'family'-idea.

Let me tell you a little bit of history:
About a year ago I was full of idea's and plans for the RC5 contest. I decided to talk to everyone who had a system to install the client and so gain a little more power every day. Then I did something stuppid to show off and claimed to have a huge keyrate in the near feature. Because I had to depend on machines that where not in my control, I almost caused a flamewar here in a group that should be my 'family' I was dissapointed and left, to crack on my one but the love for the 'family' never left! I had a break for a few months and came back to 'my roots' to join my team again. Not only do i have a lott of fun lately but I also notice that the problems that where there in the past had solved it's self.

What i would like to say with this is: I think i do understand what your feeling is right now (although i don't know you), get a break, concentrate on other things (work, family, other things) and give yourself some rest. You should see that when you look at team AnandTech in some time, the problems that are now there, will be solved (I really hope they do).

I really hope that you will continue the RC5 compitition, it would be a great loss if we and team AnandTech should lose someone that has allways been a person to stimulate others in gaining power and working as a team.

You are still a winner to me!

P.s.: Forgive me for my bad English, i hope it is readable to you.

After reading the great reasoning by the people posting here....I have come to the conclusion that you're all winners....and are admired for it.

Thanks DPC and also thanks Dan for the effort...it all goes appreciated more than you know...

*wow*
This almost sounds like the competition is already over!
But it's not!!
Engineer (and hopefully DanC); keep on assimilating and motivating for TA. Your scorecard is still way ahead of ours!
How I feel: without a strong TA this whole competition will just be plain boring.

Don't give up 'till it's REALLY over!

yea aginor your right without our best opponent it isn't fun anymore. :( So engineer and all other TA's keep on assilimating and try to defeat us :P

/edit/i hope you can read it my english it's bad :'(/edit/

Yep AT is the only thing that keeps us going.. without AT we would have rapped this thing up already :P and then we would be #1.. but you will get /. earlier before we get you so that would be your only change to defeat us.. so grap that change and try to stop us.. and hey if we will get that first position we'll trow a party and you'll be invited :) but as I said before.. AT is the engine for DPC and the RC5 contest.. some people will disagree with me but it's true.. because we are battling against a world wide team with our team from one of the smallest countries in the world.. and that keeps us going.. so try to find another common goal within your team and common spirit or something like that..

damn I shouldn't fall a sleep anymore during english classes :)

And this also works the other way around, watch the growth of AT before DPC came close, and after that. After we came close to TA, they started to grow rapidly also. And even now, if al the PC's AT has at the moment (OGR, RC5, gamma flux, seti etc.) were put to RC5, i think they would beat the hell out of us, so don't give up and keep on assimilating !!
