RESOLUTION
Set your system to display hidden files
Click Start, then click Control Panel, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab. Under Hidden files and folders, click "Show hidden files and folders."
To display other hidden files, clear the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" check box.
Note : Hidden files and folders will appear dimmed to indicate they are not typical items. Usually, hidden files are program or system files that should not be deleted or changed.
Clear the Temporary Internet Files
Use the Windows Disk Cleanup Wizard to clear your Temporary Internet Files.
Click Start, then click Run, and then type cleanmgr.
Select Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
Delete files from WindowsUpdate folder
From the Desktop, double-click My Computer, and then double-click C:\.
Double-click the Program Files folder, and then double-click the WindowsUpdate folder.
Highlight the V4 folder. Click Edit from the main menu, and then click Invert Selection. (If you cannot locate the V4 folder, skip this step. Continue to delete the rest of the files by choosing Select All instead of Invert Selection.)
Once all of the other files are highlighted, press Delete on the keyboard to delete these files.
Next, delete all the folders and files in the V4 directory except the file named iuhist.xml . Highlight the "iuhist.xml" file, then click Edit from the main menu, and click Invert Selection.
Once the other files are highlighted, press the Delete key on the keyboard.
Remove the Windows Update ActiveX controls
Click Start, then click Search, and then click For Files or Folders. Search for the files named iuctl.dll and iuengine.dll
Once these files are found, delete them from your system's "C:\Windows\System32\dllcache" location.
Delete any other copies of these files from any other folder except from the folder C:\Windows\System32 .
After you have deleted all other copies of these files, delete them from the "C:\Windows\System32" folder.
You will be prompted by System File Protection to insert the Windows XP installation CD-ROM. Click Cancel. (You will download newer versions of the files from the Windows Update Site).
When you see the prompt "Keep these unrecognized file versions," click Yes.
Return to the Windows Update Site and install new copies of the ActiveX controls.
Note Set the Search Options to "Search Hidden Files and Folders." To enable this setting click More Advanced Options located on the left side in the Search Window. Next, select the checkbox next to "Search Hidden Files and Folders."
