Eccp Solaris client voor Randy

Zols enigen al in vorige thread hebben kunnen lezen over een solaris client. Randy heeft nu zijn client, dus het is afwachten of hij zich aan zijn woord houd en wat dp's naar dpc flushed.

Hi Duke, it works! It is very slow only 145K it/s on a P3-1gig. I'm very busy today so I'll load it on the other machines in a few days. I need to set it up to run as a servicee though. On a linux machine, I add several lines to the rc.local script to do this, but on the Solaris machine it does not have an rc.local script. Do you know what the equievlent file is?

Jammer dat het zo langzaam gaat, maarja iedere it/sec extra is mooi meegenomen. Nu nog ff die jongen helpen met zijn opstart scripje en inderdaad maar afwachten of en hoelang die machines voor DPC zullen grazen.

Volgens een vriend van mij moet het zo:
In inittab kan je een entry toevoegen voor eccp en in /etc/init.d kan je een startup script maken wat um start / stopt en dan kan je in /etc/rcx.d een link maken naar dat script.

ehhm, wacht ff, hij heeft dus die client, en issie *self-destructable* of niet?

btw, voor iedereen die het langzaam vindt, volgens mij ging het om 21*p3 1ghz, en later nog ns 21*p3 1ghz (CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG). Das dan toch wel veel puntjes hoor

kdenk ook dat je eerder antwoord krijgt in NOS, xal zelf ook nog ff kijken of ik ergens wat info daarover kan vinden.

dukebox je had die CLi gewoon omgezet naar solaris zeg maar.
maar kan er dan later een 'echte' solaris CLi die meer IT/sec opleverd.

zomaar een vraag want wat ik dus opmaak, is dus dat dit een
'domme' software omzetting is en niet echt specifiek voor solaris.
want die p3's kunnen op zich zelf meer zoals je ook al zei.

Solaris mist de juiste binaries om x86 cpu's optimaal te gebruiken (alle nieuwe opties dan zoals sse, mmx en 3dnow e.d.).

Duke and cows, I won't be running Duke's client on the Solaris machines. The client is extremely slow and only gets about 15 DPs a day. It would not be worth my trouble to come to work an hour early (0530) to go to each machine with a floppy to get 20 DPs every day or even once a week. The machines will be shutoff and not run ECCP for anyone, I promise - unless a better client becomes available that will at least get close to what a 1gig P3 is capably of.

Duke thank you for trying, I owe you for trying. DPC, I am not trying to back out of a deal, it just is not worth it for me!

I have dumped approximately 100 DPs through the DPC proxy for Evil_Roy_II, when ever Duke flushes them to ND, I will join Evil_Roy_II to the DPC for all they have done.

If anyone finds a way to make this client faster, let me know and we can try it again

On Solaris x86, you need the GNU assembler and the GNU C/C++ compiler, configured to use the GNU assembler! The mplayer code on the x86 platform makes heavy use of MMX, SSE and 3DNOW! instructions that cannot be compiled using Sun's assembler /usr/ccs/bin/as.

ok, maar hij heeft een kale solaris. Dat bleek al met de 1ste versie van de client die enige optimalisatie had.

Nou en? Je kunt die client wel op een andere bak compileren (desnoods met een compleet ander OS zelfs) met gcc.

Thanks for trying though. That's one of the things I love most about distributed computing. Healthy competition, but also to try and help each other out. Used to love hanging around at Anandtech's for that purpose!
