A7V333/1007beta/raid performance tips
I just got done running a series of tests that I'd like to share. It looks like the Asus software eng's are now working on the issue of hard drive performance.
I tested the 1007 beta bios with my A7V333(WinXP pro on ide1:M, Maxtor 133:40GB,2-512 corsairCa2 PC2700, AMD 2100+ @1820, 13/140/35/turbo defaults, vcore 1.75, jumpers default,IDE1M/boot disk,IDE1S/zip 250, IDE2M/DVD ROM, IDE2S/CDRW,IDE3M/Maxtor 133/20GB, IDE4M/same as 3) using PCMark2002, WinBench98(2), Sandra, and Atto and here's what I found.
Sandra: You'll love this one if you use it for benching and have on board raid.
I used to get in the 27-29 thousand range. It's pegging in at 39,000+(usb2 disabled) and 37,000+ (usb2 enabled). My non-raid drive is now benching at 26,400 (usb2 on or off). Seems like Asus was using Sandra to test their changes.
Atto: Slight increase across the board with less of a drop when enabling usb2
Winbench:Very slight increase(+500) on Business Disk to 13,800 (there's never been a real difference made with usb2 on this test) while the high end test scooted up a bit to 42,000 (again, not a big increase, and never a big difference with usb2)
PCMark2002: A best time of 1480 (usb2 off-a slight boost) and pushing 1200 with usb2 enabled.
A couple of comments.
This is beta software, so it's your decision to give it a try. What works with my system, my not even boot with yours. (Sorry, been flamed before ) Use these numbers as a reference, and not a bible. When you test, run each benchmark 3-6 times in a row. You will see quite a range coming out of all of them. Average the results.
I found a slight instability at my higher clock speeds(142/36) when running from my raid drive as boot disk. This only showed up running 3DMark and was intermittent. Overall 3DMArk scores dropped slightly with 1007.
