Guys.. de pointrelease is ook BETA!!
check dit:<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=1 face=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica>quote:</font><HR>I had a chance to fire off a few questions regarding the recent Quake III v1.25 Beta release to id Software's Robert Duffy. The questions were gleaned from mails received as to what is of concern to the Q3A community. Robert was kind enough to answer promptly, and honestly.
Pappy-R: I was a bit confused by the emotions and reactions of the Q3A community to the features in what I saw as an obvious and clear beta test. Was id Software expecting this kind of reaction at all?
Robert Duffy: We should have done a better job labeling it as a beta. The installation and readme should have clearly stated it instead of just mentioning it in a .plan file. That side of things we could have done a better job on. I don't know that I was expecting much of a reaction, certainly not the initial uproar over the physics change.
Pappy-R: When a Beta is put out and new features introduced, how is the decision made on what to keep? Are there certain features that are non-negotiable, and others that can be taken by public opinion?
Robert Duffy: We are not dropping any features at all. Several things were in this version from Team Arena and those will be taken out of Quake 3 Arena but remain in Team Arena where they belong. I stated that we would pay attention to public opinion on the physics code which we will to some degree. We are not breaking the code to make physics behave exactly like they did. We are either going to implement the code to emulate the way they were or tweak acceleration a bit to give that same feel back ( or at least something very similar ). With that said, I would say that public opinion might be changing, we are starting to see a lot of "don't touch the 1.25 physics" now that it has been out a bit.
Pappy-R: With so much new code, and features involved, id knew the mod community would have major adjustments to make to a new version, even if it's not v1.25 but even a v1.27 or so. Can you see this happening again to a major solid release after Team Arena is released?
Robert Duffy: I don't really expect there to be any major adjustments needed. A few trap calls were added and a few had parameter adjustments. Using good diff and merge software someone should be able get everything together pretty quickly. There will be some detail oriented work for sure but overall it should not be that bad. The code released for 1.26 or whatever the final point release is will be culled straight from the Team Arena source. Beyond that I do not see any major changes beyond bug fixes and normal enhancements.
Pappy-R: There was a few bugs and/or broken features in the v1.25 release that were solid in v1.17. Were these overlooked or just not considered to be the focus for v1.25, and left undone?
Robert Duffy: We did not release anything broken on purpose. If something is screwed up or broken it is our fault.[/quote]geript van
