Thank you for sending your MAXTOR E-mail inquiry.

I would recommend that you run PowerDiag which will determine if the drive is defective. If the drive is not defective, you will need to use MaxBlast to setup the drive. If you receive a valid error code, then
the drive is defective and you will need to get an RMA number.
Below are the options for each of the above.
1) How to get and run PowerDiag.
2) How to get MaxBlast.
3) How to get a RMA #.

If MAXDIAG produced an error code, the option to replace the drive will be offered, provided the drive is in warranty.
We can process your RMA from our website. Check out the following link for more information:

<https://extranet2.maxtor.com/webRMA/rmatypewebrequest.htm>
Via EMAIL we can process a "STANDARD" RMA where we process your Name,
address, TLA NUMBER and PHONE as an RMA. Once we give you the
RETURN MATERIAL AUTHORIZATION NUMBER, we ask that you send the
defective drive with the RMA # listed on the package to Maxtor first,
and upon receipt, we will send the replacement drive.
YOU MUST HAVE AN RMA # PRIOR TO HAVING THE DRIVE REPLACED.
If an "ADVANCED" RMA is desired, please call 1-800-2-MAXTOR for customer service - a credit card is required to secure the cost of the replacement sent to you. Maxtor will charge your credit card the cost of the replacement drive IF the defective drive is not received by Maxtor within 30 days.
RMA INFORMATION NEEDED TO PROCESS THE RMA VIA EMAIL:
1: Model of the drive to be replaced.
2: Serial number of the drive to be replaced.
3: HDA uplevel number of the drive to be replaced.
4: PCBA uplevel number of the drive to be replaced.

Additionally, we'll need your:

2: Shipping Address (No P.O. boxes PLEASE).
3: Telephone number.
4: The type of RMA desired - Standard or Advanced- remember the
advanced rma's require a credit card- (please read advance rma
