Kwam ik vandaag op de site van apache:

The Apache Group is proud to announce the release the first GA release of Apache 2.0. Apache 2.0 has been running on the Apache.org website since December of 2000 and has proven to be very reliable.

Apache 2.0 offers numerous enhancements, improvements and performance boosts over the 1.3 codebase. The most visible and noteworthy addition is the ability to run Apache in a hybrid thread/process mode on any platform that supports both threads and processes. This has shown to improve the scalability of the Apache HTTP Server significantly in our testing. Apache 2.0 also includes support for filtered I/O. This allows modules to modify the output of other modules before it is sent to the client. We have also included support for IPv6 on any platform that supports IPv6.

This version of Apache is known to work on many versions of Unix, BeOS, OS/2, Windows, and Netware. Because of many of the advancements in Apache 2.0, the initial release of Apache is expected to perform equally well on all supported platforms.

There are new snapshots of the Apache httpd source available every 6 hours from http://cvs.apache.org/snapshots/ - please download and test if you feel brave. We don't guarantee anything except that it will take up disk space, but if you have the time and skills, please give it a spin on your platforms.

Lijkt me de final versie, stond boven de 1.3.23 release op de frontpage.

Hij bedoelt de frontpage van httpd.apache.org denk ik . Ik heb hem wel voor de FP van tweakers.net gesubmit, dus misschien dat er toch nog een crosspost uitkomt. Niet dat dat een probleem zou zijn, de FP en GoT zijn nu eenmaal heel anders van aard. Het zou wel erg zijn als het niet meer op de FP mag omdat er al een thread over loopt op het forum .

Yup, hoe zou de frontpage van Tweakers nou up to date zijn? Als ik het nu in de queue gooi (zal er vast wel in staan), komt het volgende week pas in de meuktracker.

Nu nog een godlike PHP erbij, zou 4.2.0 RC2 compilen met dat ding?

Ik had begrepen dat php wel als module werkt, maar niet statisch in de httpd zelf.

Nou ja, waar ik me het meest zorgen over maak is of ze de config erg overhoop hebben gegooid.
Die modules zoals mod_perl die zullen heus wel komen, vroeg of laat.

Mod_perl heb ik draaien met 1.3.23, maar ik gebruik het niet. Het enige wat ik dus nodig heb is PHP als DSO (heb ik niet static gedaan zodat ik dat ding er zo uit kan rippen zonder apache aan te passen) en mod_gzip (wel static, komt toch nooit een nieuwe versie van uit)

Hij staat nu ook op de frontpage van tweakers.net. Overigens hebben sites als LWN en linuxtoday het bericht nog steeds niet staan...blijkbaar is de release niet (groot) aangekondigd.

* odysseus was blijkbaar het snelst om het te melden...er is binnen een paar minuten een artikel omheen geschreven .
