Lite-on 24 speed op Abit KR7A-Raid

Ik was van plan om a.s zaterdag op de PCDUMPDAG een Lite-on 24 speed brander te gaan kopen.
Nu lees ik links en rechts wel eens dat Lite-on branders en Abit moederboren geen lekkere combinatie is.
Ook schijnt het zo te zijn dat de upgrade van firmware niet lukt als je RAID gebruikt bij sommige 24 speed Lite-ons in combinatie met de KR7A.
Als alternatief dacht ik toen aan een Aopen brander, maar ook deze schijnt wel eens niet lekker te werken als hij aan een Abit moederbord hangt.

Nu kan ik natuurlijk een Plextor gaan kopen..............
maar die is weer een stukkie duurder.

Daarom wilde ik hier informeren naar jullie ervaringen met de 24 speed branders van Aopen en Lite-on in combinatie met een Abit KR7A-Raid.

It has been reported that it is not possible to upgrade the firmware of some 12 and 24 speed CD writers produced by a company called LiteOnIt. One user reports that this is due to problems when using the Highpoint controller. The solution is to ensure the CDRW is only connected to the VIA IDE controller and that the Windows boot disk is also connected to the VIA controller. If you normally boot from the Highpoint controller you will need to temporarily move the disk to the VIA IDE controller whilst performing the firmware update (although this is not possible if you use RAID). Otherwise, the solution is to perform the update on a different machine. Note that if the flashing fails you can jumper the CDRW to "LiteOn BOOT" and then the BIOS finds it and you can flash the CDRW to an old Firmware (LS17 is probably the last DOS Firmware updater) from DOS - see here.

Other problems with LiteOn drives, such as random ejects, are usually due to an insufficient power supply. Upgrade to at least 350W!

The Memorex 24Maxx is not available in some regions. The Lite-On 24x10x40 is identical to the Memorex 24Maxx.


Memorex is a well-know brand in blank CD-R and CD-RW media. But it also has a full range of burners, the latest being the 24Maxx. It is based on Sanyo mechanics and looks it, having pretty much the same features. It has 2 MB of cache, Burn-Proof technology and burns CD-Rs at 24x max and in Z-CLV. The 80 ms (milliseconds) claimed for access time do, however, show progress compared to the Sanyo CRD-BP1500P, which takes well over 130 ms.

All the functions have been retained, such as overburning, CD Text and writing in DAO-RAW for backup fans. Note that this burner is easily recognized by the latest versions of Clone CD and Nero Burning Rom. The unit we tested has 5WS2 firmware. The 24Maxx comes with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.01, a CD-RW and fastenings
