01)CeBIT: Multi DVD and 40 speed-CD burner of LG

The Multi DVD burner GMA-4020B of LG Electronics can describe the formats DVD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RAM, CD-R and CD-RW. This becomes possible by one in co-operation with Hitachi developed signal processor the variable controlling lasers Pick ups.

The GCE-8400B is to enable fast and safe combustions owing to an integrated Buffer Underrun protection. The price and the availability of the new burner LG gives still no specification.

HANNOVER, GERMANY (March 13, 2002) SOYO Computer, Inc. will announce 12 new motherboard designs at CeBIT 2002 here, which will maximize performance of the latest Intel and AMD CPUs, and VIA, SiS and Intel chipset technologies.

SOYO will introduce several new additions to its DRAGON series of DDR-memory based motherboards for Intel and AMD, and preview other new AMD and Intel designs. The company will also introduce its SY-P4I RAPTOR, which will support Intel Socket-478 Pentium 4 CPUs and will be based on the Intel i850E / ICH2 chipset with support for 400 MHz FSB.

The RAPTOR is SOYOs featured Rambus memory mainboard for 2002 with its four 184-pin Direct Rambus RIMM modules, which will support up to 2GBs of memory. Featured motherboards in the DRAGON series for Intel Socket-478 Pentium 4 processors include the SY-P4V DRAGON Ultra with VIAs P4X333 / 8235 chipset; the SY-P4I Fire DRAGON with Intel i845B step / ICH2 chipset and IEEE 1394 FireWire support. Two new DRAGON series boards will be based on new SiS chipset technology for Intel Pentium 4 CPUs. The SY-P4S645DX DRAGON Ultra will feature the SIS 645DX / 961 chipset, while the SY-P4S648 DRAGON Ultra has been designed with the SIS 648 / 962 chipset. DRAGON series boards for Intel CPUs. All boards offer DDR memory support, and support for 400/533 MHz FSB.

For AMD Socket-A processors, SOYO will show its SY-K7V DRAGON Ultra with VIA KT333 / 8233A chipset, and support for 200/266 MHz FSB. The DRAGON Ultra distinguishes itself from like-boards with the addition of SOYOs sigma box series, which provides 8 USB ports, including four USB 2.0 ports. SOYOs SY-K7V DRAGON Light board for consumers will feature the VIA KT266A / 8233A chipset.

Other new SOYO motherboards for Intel CPUs will include the SY-P4VDA for Socket-478 Pentium 4 processors. It will feature VIAs P4X266A / 8233A chipset, support 400 MHz FSB, and is expandable with three 184-pin DDR SDRAM 2.5V DIMM sockets with support up to 3GB. SOYOs SY-P4SDM, designed for consumers, will support the Socket-478 Pentium 4 with SIS 650/961B chipset, 400MHz FSB, and two 184-pin DDR SDRAM 2.5V DIMM sockets for up to 2GBs of memory. The SY-7VEF has also been designed for price-performance systems with support for the Intel FC-PGA 2 Tualatin Processor, and Intel FC-PGA Pentium III and Celeron Processors. The SY-7VEF uses standard 168-pin SDRAM DIMM sockets with support up to 1.0GB

Additional new boards in SOYOs AMD 2002 lineup for Socket A processors include the SY-K7VDM with VIA KM266/8233A chipset, and the SY-K7VEM Pro with VIA KLE133 VT8361+ 686B Chipset. Both boards will support 200/266 MHz FSB

Depending on the model SOYO will integrate many advanced features to add performance and value to its designs. Standard features on many boards in the 2002 lineup will include: Embedded Hipoint IDE-RAID chip, which will provide ATA133 IDE- RAID 0,1,0+1; on board 10/100 Mbps Ethernet function embedded CMI 8738 audio chips to provide 6 channels audio solution; AGP Pro Slots; and Smart Card Reader connectors for utilizing Smart Card applications.

SOYO will also include its sigma box line of peripherals with some models. These bundled peripherals occupy a standard 3.5-inch drive bay for easily connecting additional devices such as USB 2.0, telephony, and FireWire devices to the front of the system being built.

The SOYO 2002 motherboard lineup continues SOYOs tradition of making it easy to fine-tune its motherboards for business & consumer performance applications such as 3D modeling, animation or gaming. SOYO has integrated many enhanced overclocking, system management, and security features into the majority of its motherboards. Users can customize their boards to specific applications by adjusting the CPU FSB, core voltage & multiplier, AGP/AGP Pro voltage, and DDR SDRAM/RAMBUS voltage via the BIOS setup. The FSB on most models can also be set in 1Mhz increments through the BIOS setup

Support is also included for on-board hardware monitoring, and includes SOYOs Hardware Health Utility to streamline PC system management. 03)Philips keert terug met blitse mobiele telefoons

Productie is ge-outsourced
Wie dacht dat Philips niet meer meespeelde in de mobiele telefoniemarkt, zal verrast zijn als hij op CeBIT 2002 de stand van de Nederlandse elektronicagigant bezoekt. Want wat ligt daar? Drie nieuwe Philips-telefoons, waarvan één model een aantrekkelijk GPRS-toestel met een groot kleurenscherm. Het sleutelconcept bij alle nieuwe Philips-toestellen is een laag gewicht en een compacte, trendy behuizing.

Vorig jaar leek het nochtans dat Philips zou stoppen met mobiele telefoons. De resultaten van de afdeling verantwoordelijk voor die toestellen bleven immers ver onder verwachtingen. Bij monde van directeur Gerard Kleisterlee liet het bedrijf toen zelfs weten een overnamebod te overwegen. Dat is echter niet meer aan de orde, blijkt uit de lancering van de nieuwe toestellen. Philips zegt nu zelfs dat het gaat om een "miscommunicatie". Zij blijven wel gsm's op de markt brengen, maar de productie wordt uitbesteed aan Aziatische firma's. De zaak werd meer vertroebeld door het feit dat Philips de mobiele telefoons die het zelf had ontwikkeld en begin 2001 voorstelde schrapte, waardoor het bedrijf zonder aanbod leek te vallen.

De drie nieuwe mobiele telefoons behoren tot de Fisio-familie. De eerste, de Fisio 120, is een simpel apparaat dat overduidelijk op de budgetmarkt mikt.
Weinig franjes, een gewicht van 95 gram en een sober en compact uiterlijk vormen de hoofdingrediënten van dit toestel, dat verder beschikt over een vierlijnenscherm. Het zal beschikbaar zijn in drie kleuren: Storm Black, Whale Blue en Opal White. Met aparte covers zijn andere kleuren mogelijk. Vermoedelijk zal de Fisio 120 vooral de weg vinden naar pre-paidpakketten.

De Fisio 620 is al heel wat spannender.
De GPRS-telefoon richt zich op mensen die houden van stijlvolle toestellen met extra functionaliteit. Zo bevat het toestel een ingebouwde modem/fax, organizerfuncties en kan het gesynchroniseerd worden met een pc. Modegevoelige gebruikers houden van personalisering en Philips komt hen hier dan ook tegemoet. De behuizing kan worden aangepast met kleurvolle afdekplaten en de beltoon kan vervangen worden door een eigen opname. Er is ook geen plaats voor een externe antenne - een 'schoorsteen' - in de binnenzak of handtas van de trendy receptieganger, die saaie gesprekken kan onderbreken om vlijtig te beginnen SMS'en.

De meest opvallende verschijning van de drie is de Fisio 820. Dat komt vooral door het grote kleurenscherm, waarop beelden kunnen getoond worden. Zo'n toestel is natuurlijk niets zonder een snelle verbinding en daarom is het uitgerust om te werken met GPRS. Daar stopt het echter niet: de 820 is ook uitgerust met een Bluetooth-module, zodat de telefoon samen met een draadloze headset kan gebruikt worden. Niet geheel toevallig wordt de lancering van de F820 begeleid door de voorstelling van zo'n radiokit door Philips.

The operating system 7650 is based on Epoc, which already successfully uses Nokia with the Smartphone 9210. Owing to Epoc and Java support the user can load additional software on the Handy. 7650 is in the second quarter 2002 on the market to come and will costabout 550 euro . Fujitsu Siemens Computers today pre-announced the introduction of the Intel Pentium 4 processor in its Amilo D range. With up to 2.4 GHz clock frequency, the Amilo D is the ultimate desktop replacement for high-end multimedia applications aimed at home PC and power hungry users. The new notebook will be launched at CeBIT 2002 (Hall 1, Booth 5e2), first deliveries are scheduled for April 2002.



The new Amilo D comes with an external ATI M6C video chip with 16 MB DDR RAM, featuring double data throughput and less power consumption. An Infrared interface as standard enables wireless data transfer for digital camcorders, scanners and other external devices. For larger data transfers at a higher rate, a FireWire (IEEE 1394) port is available. Customers can choose between two different TFT displays: 14.1" and 15" with high SXGA+ resolutions. The screen content can also be displayed on a standard TV or data projector through a built-in S-Video out port. The Amilo D has an integrated Floppy Disk Drive and is available in different version with built-in CD, DVD, CD-RW or Combo drive. Processor frequency and hard drive size of up to 40GB are also free configurable and a wireless LAN module can be built-in optionally.

08)HEWLETT PACKARD announces Jornada 928 GSM/GPRS for CeBIT

HEWLETT PACKARD announced a new pocket PC with the Jornada 928 GSM/GPRS for the coming CeBIT in Hanover. It is exclusively intended for the European market and can be used in the GSM network on the frequencies 900 and 1,800 MHz, says HP. The Jornada will presumably run on the pocket PC 2002-Platform of Microsoft.
An interesting detail is the configuration of the terminal with the GPRS technology, to quickly transfer data and surf on the Net. The Jornada measures a considerable 137 x 77.8 x 16.7 mm and weighs 184 gram. It is driven by a TI Perseus G4-Prozessor with an integrated GSM - ARM7 / LEVER 9 dual PCU DESIGN. It possesses 32 MB FlashROM as well as 64 MB RAM and runs at 66 MHz.



The display (a Touchscreen), of the LCD-TFT type, has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and can display up to 65,536 colours. A microphone as well as a loudspeaker (also as a headset applicable) are integrated. The Jornada possesses an interface to connect a headset and is powered by two batteries (polymer lithium with 560 mAh). On Standby it holds approximately 170 hours, in use about 180 minutes.
In addition, the Jornada has Compact Flash type I-Slot as well as the possibility to use an infrared connection or you can connect it by USB cables or serial cable.

Munich (smk) - Waitec presents on the CeBIT with the x-file a DVD burner, which can write the formats DVD+RW and DVD+R. Both types of medium are to be able to be burned with 2,5speed rate.


Besides the x-file D-CRs with twelvefold and D-CRcWs with 10speed writes. The " SafeLink" technology is to provide for a safe combustion, by preventing write errors due to Buffer Underrun errors. NEC presents 24/10/40x D-CRcW-cDrive

Internal D-CWriter NR-7900A for December in the trade available / burners costs approximately 124 euro without accessories


NEC Germany (stock exchange Frankfurt: NEC) wants to present introduced internal Atapi burner on the CeBIT with the NR-7900A its in December yearly passed again the public. Named Pocket LOOX, the new handheld is the successor to Fujitsu-Siemens' SX45 device which features the Pocket PC 2000 operating system and built-in GSM/GPRS wireless capabilities. Like its predecessor, the Pocket LOOX has a CompactFlash Type II slot, but an in addition a SD Card expansion slot has also been placed on the left side of the device.

The speaker of the device is placed on top while the microphone is placed in the lower right corner, an arrangement which seems to have been made with the GSM/GPRS add-on module Fujitsu-Siemens also announced in mind. Evidently, this module will add full mobile phone functionality to the LOOX.

Although Fujitsu-Siemens provided very scarce additional details, attendees at a Product & Trend Show held by Fujitsu-Siemens in Paderborn, where the company previewed a prototype of the device, have informed us that the LOOX has 64 MB of RAM, and that its processor is actually an Intel XScale processor running at a whopping 300 MHz. A Fujitsu-Siemens spokesperson could not confirm the details, however promised that all technical details would be revealed at CeBIT 2002 which is where the LOOX will be officially announced.

Details of ATI Radeon 8500 XT and 8800

Chinese Site revealed GPU plans of ATI / RV250 is probably in 0,13 Micron manufactured

The rumor kitchen bubbles again around ATI. On the Chinese Site www.gzeasy.com information on the RV250 chip and the Radeon 8500XT has emerged now. Both will probably be present on the CeBIT 2002 (13 until 20 March, Hall 11, status G62 and hall 19, status B32).



The Radeon 8500XT will run at clock rates between 300 and 350 MHz and will be equipped with 128 MByte GDR SDRAM. The RV250 is manufactured according to the source with the 0,13 micron production process. With it, ATI wants to react to the Geforce 4. According to the Site, the GPU manufacturer wants to call the card officially " Radeon 8800 ". The clockrate of the Radeon 8800 will probably be 350 MHz.

First samples of the further developed R300-Chips are probably introduced in May, according to Gzeasy. For the market start in the autumn the semiconductor manufacturer will probably emerge with a card named Radeon 9x00. The GPU R300 will likely be DirectX 9.0-compatible and will support Vertex Shader 2,0 as well as pixel Shader 2,0. The R300 will also be manufactured with the 0,13 Micron proces and is clocked at least 350 to 400 MHz.

Elsa (stock exchange Frankfurt: ELS) will present four Geforce4-Solutions on the CeBIT (13 until 20 March) with the Consumer Videocards Gladiac 925VIVO, 725TV-OUT, 517TV-OUT and 517VIVO. The Gladiac 925VIVO and Gladiac 725TV-OUT should already be available according to the manufacturer starting of the beginning of April and the models 517TV-OUT and 517VIVO of the middle of March.

The High end Videocard 925VIVO (VIVO = video In/Video Out) is based on the Nvidia Grafikprozessor Geforce4 Ti 4600 and should be equipped by 650 mc/s with 128 MByte DDR SDRAM with 2.8 nanoseconds access time clocked at 650 MHz. The manufacturer aims the board at the power user.

The Nfinite FX II engine of the GPU, allows pixel-exact programming, any realistic 3D-Effekte like particle-based light -, nebulas -, smoke and explosion effects as well as fantastisch animated water surfaces are possible. Also the Lightspeed MEMORY Architecture II was improved and ensures according to Elsa, almost double memory bandwidth opposite to a Geforce3-Chip.

With the function Accuview-Antialiasing, pixeledges will be a thing of the past at high resolutions. The Gladiac 925VIVO possesses multi-monitor for the administration of the data processing II-interface likewise available beside the VGA output for the simultaneous link of TFT displays the management Tool Nview. The integrated VIVO link permits recording and processing of videos and playing DVD films on HDTV televisions.

Supercomputer for " narrow " purses

NEC offers now in Germany a " mini supercomputer " starting from approximately 200,000 euro on (including 1 year maintenance). Differently than the larger, substantially more expensive brothers the SX-6i is equipped only with one the high speed SX Vektorprozessoren. It needs therefore no Crossbar Switches and other complex logics for interprocessor communication. But also with only one processor the SX-6i (theoretical) a top speed of 8 GigaFLOPS (billion floating decimal point operations per second) already achieves. With the Linpack bench mark (with 1000er matrix) 7.57 GFLOPS were really measured.

Munich (jg) - the new distribution SuSE Linux 8,0 is presented on 13 March on the CeBIT. There are already first rumors to the function range, because the version branch of 7.3 to 8.0 suggests some. Although SuSE on its web page still low-stacks, there are already first rumors in relevant forums.

Terratec brings MP3 in the living room
Munich (ai) - Terratec presents on the CeBIT the first D-CMcP3-cPlayer with integrated fixed disk in the HiFi Design. The device is called C.A.R. 4000, whereby C.A.R. is for Compressed audio recorder.

DS are serrated in the device and stored on the 20 GByte large fixed disk, which is enough for well 540 DS. The name assignment takes over a title data base, which can be held via PC up to date. The administration of the individual titles is to be intuitive and offer a personal profile administration.

ATI A3 and A4 at CeBIT

We received a word about ATI joining the company of Intel, VIA and SIS willing to demonstrate their new chipsets at CeBIT. ATI is expected to introduce two products at once A3 and A4 chipsets.

Both these chipsets will have similar characteristics, the only difference will be CPU types they support. A3 is intended for both Pentium III and Athlon family, and A4 is designed for Pentium 4 CPUs only. These chipsets have an integrated graphics engine based on RADEON 7000 (RADEON VE) architecture. The graphics SMA engine will use from 4 to 64MB of system memory for graphics data. The chipsets will also support external AGP 4x graphics cards.

As system memory ATI chipsets will support PC2100/CP1600 DDR SDRAM. All the other characteristics of A3 and A4 look rather usual: ATA-100 support, AC97 sound and 4USB 1.1 ports implemented by a South Bridge from ALi to be used together with North Bridges from ATI.

At CeBIT ATI will also show mainboards based on A3 and A4. Description of the first products of the kind are already available in the web, for example at PCPartner. The major partner of ATI to use A3 and A4 chipsets will most probably become FIC.
