Dear Sir/Madam,
I've been having troubles with the Half-Life engine and OpenGL ever since the game has been
released. The problem is, that after selecting OpenGL the game (Half-Life and Counter-Strike and
all other mods using the engine) just gives a black screen for a few seconds when starting a
game and then returns to the desktop with no errors given. At first I thought this was a
hardware related problem, but through the years I've replaced like all the possible hardware and
still the problem continues to exsist. I'll give my oldest and my newest specs:
- Intel Celeron 433
- SB AWE64
- Diamond Viper V770 (TNT2 chipset)
- 96 mb RAM
other hardware isn't relevant
My new configurtion is the following:
- AMD AThlon 1333
- SB Life! 5.1 player
- GeForce 3 Ti200
- 720 mb ram
other hardware isn't relevant.
I've searched the internet for this problem, but I couldn't find anything. I have the problem
under Windows 98se, windows me and windows xp, so that can't be the problem too. I also didn't
overclock any parts and the temprature of both the videocard and CPU are normal.
I also have the latest nVidia detonator drivers and OpenGL works perfectly under other programs.
Therefor I'm absolutely sure I've did everything I can to solve this problem, and I don't have
any idea of how it could occur, except that it's a bug in the HL engine. Maybe it's a known
issue, so I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance,
Stephan Domburg
