[xp] unmountable boot device na sound card

Hoi allemaal,

Na installatie van de Terratec Sixpack 5.1+ geluidskaart en een reboot (had ik nooit moeten doen, want geluidskaart werkte zonder reboot al prima) krijg ik een leuk blauw scherm bij het opstarten met 'unmountable boot device', zowel in Veilige Modus als normaal.

Iemand van de hotline van Terratec dacht dat deze error zou verdwijnen na het verwijderen van de kaart, maar dat is helaas niet zo. Ook dan blijft hij te voorschijn komen, zowel bij de Veilige Modus als normaal.

Hoe kan dit nu? In een ander topic hier ( [topic=318811/1/25] ) wordt gewezen op mogelijk RAID constructies; mogelijk dat meespeelt dat ik volgens WinXP RAID heb, dankzij een VIA driver die ik moest installeren om m'n CD-ROM te kunnen benaderen? Zo ja, kan ik dit op een of andere manier omzeilen of alsnog anders oplossen? Of wordt dit een kale herinstallatie, zoals ook de man van Terratec namens zichzelf (namens Terratec wist hij helemaal geen oplossing...) me aanraadde?

dat moet 'unmountable boot volume' zijn zag ik net bij een zoveelste poging. Gelukkig heb in Linux nog...

SYMPTOMS
You may receive the following error message when you first restart your computer during the upgrade to Windows XP:

STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
After you receive this error message, your original operating system still works correctly. In some cases, a message appears on the BIOS report screen, which states that the wrong cable is in use, but you may not see this message on computers that have a fast startup time.



CAUSE
This behavior may occur if the following conditions exist:

You are using an Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) controller with your computer.


You are using a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.


The basic input/output system (BIOS) is set to force the faster UDMA modes.


The file system is corrupted and cannot be mounted.





RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, perform one of the following procedures:

Replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire UDMA cable.


Load the 'Fail-Safe' BIOS default and reactivate the most currently used options such as USB Support.

If the second parameter of the Stop error is 0xC0000032, then file system is corrupted. Restart the computer to the Recovery Console, and then run the chkdsk command against the volume. After it is repaired, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system corruption.

This behavior is by design.

The purpose of this behavior is to prevent potential data loss due to the usage of an incorrect IDE cable for the faster UDMA modes.

Heel gaaf dat je me op dit KB artikel hebt gewezen. Zelf vond ik het niet; misschien omdat ik de paniek niet nauwkeurig genoeg zocht...

Overigens zeer vreemd dat de installatie v/e geluidskaart dit kan veroorzaken.... Ik zal Terratec mailen dat de drivers anders moeten maken, want dit is voor een beginner echt natuurlijk helemaal een hel, terwijl ik toch volgens mij geen beginner meer ben...
