Sinds een tijdje maakt mijn pc een brommerig, roterend geluid. Irritant want het enige geluid dat ik van 'm accepteer behoort uit de speakers te komen, niet uit de kast!
Na eerst de voedingsventilator verdacht en vervangen te hebben, waarna de verdenking op de harddisks viel, toch maar eens alles een voor een losgekoppeld en pc weer aangezet.
Bleek het de fan van de videokaart te zijn ...! Het is een Viper 770 Ultra, dus maar even naar de site gesurfd. Bleek een bekend fenomeen te zijn want het werd vermeld in de FAQ:

-Begin by powering off the system, grounding yourself by touching the power supply, and unplugging the power from the back of the system. Unscrew and remove the video card and begin with step 1.
1. Unplug the fan from the card
2. Remove all the phillips screws from the fan that secure it to the heatsink
3. Gently pry the fan from the heatsink
4. Clean all surfaces of the heatsink and fan blades
5. Check for interference from any wires. You may have to tuck them back into the guide that runs under the fan blades
6. Check for any bad molding on the fan blades that may contact the heatsink and cause noise. Trim if any of this is present.
7. Reinstall in the reverse order and test

Maar het schoonmaken verhielp het niet (hoewel het iets minder luid werd).
Vraag is: mag zo'n fan "gesmeerd" worden en zoja, waarmee doe je dat dan. Contact spray smeert volgens mij niet maar is enkel voor betere geleiding en produkten op olie basis lijken me niet echt jofel in een PC behuizing.
