Ik las de topic over je start-menu kleurtje veranderen en ineens herinnerde ik me dat ik ergen gelezen had hoe je de "START" text ook aan kan passen.

na enig getweak is dit mijn resultaat:
Afbeeldingslocatie: http://members.home.nl/freak.brother/Startmenu.JPG
(let ook op het icoontje en op de plek waar normaal de Log off.. en Turn Down Computer staat! :))

Hoe heb ik dit gedaan?

My own tweak......
Want to change the Start button name(the green thing) on Windows XP to something more interesting without using other programs that eat resources like winblinds?

i.e. from "START" to your name/nick/etc...on my case "VoiX", on my missus "Princesa".....no limits....

Then follow my lead very carefully:

Print this out before proceding

1.backup the following files:
explorer.exe (located in c:\WINDOWS)
filelist.xml (located in c:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore)

2.right click each one of the above files and un-tick the "Read-only" attribute, then click on apply, then on ok

3.download Resource hacker(how come you donŽt have it yet??? its a must must must have utility) from http://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip or http://rpi.net.au/~ajohnson/resourcehacker/reshack.zip or
http://rpi.net.au/~ajohnson/resourcehacker/index.html then unzip it to a folder on your hard drive, ie. c:\Program Files\Resource Hacker

4.click on the reshacker.exe and leave it open.

5.lets go back to c:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore and then open filelist.xml in NOTEPAD and look in this section:

<Exclude>
<REC>%windir%\system.ini</REC>
<REC>%windir%\tasks\desktop.ini</REC>
<REC>%windir%\win.ini</REC>
<REC>*:\AUTOEXEC.BAT</REC>
<REC>*:\CONFIG.MSI</REC>
<REC>*:\CONFIG.SYS</REC>
</Exclude>

6.Add <REC>%windir%\explorer.exe</REC> to the list like this:

<Exclude>
<REC>%windir%\system.ini</REC>
<REC>%windir%\explorer.exe</REC>
<REC>%windir%\tasks\desktop.ini</REC>
<REC>%windir%\win.ini</REC>
<REC>*:\AUTOEXEC.BAT</REC>
<REC>*:\CONFIG.MSI</REC>
<REC>*:\CONFIG.SYS</REC>
</Exclude>

7.Save and close it.

8.Close all aplications EXCEPT Resource hacker and these Instructions(if youŽre reading them on IE)

8.Righ-click the taskbar and click on "Task Manager"

9.Click on "PROCESSES" tab

10.Right-click on "explorer.exe" and click on "End process" and click on YES to the Warning that will pop up(DonŽt worry youŽre doing just fine)

11.go to Resouce hacker, click on File--Open then find explorer.exe(in c:\WINDOWS)

12.you should see now on the left pane a folder tree with bitmap, icon, menu, dialog, string table, etc

13.Click on STRING TABLE--- 37 --- 1033

on the right pane youŽll have:

STRINGTABLE
LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US
{
578, "start"
579, "There was an internal error and one of the windows you were using has been closed."
580, "Restrictions"
581, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."
590, "Hiding your inactive notification icons..."
591, "To see the hidden icons, click this button."
}

14.Change the "start" to anything you want like "VoiX" )(note: keep the quotation marks)

15.click on the COMPILE SCRIPT button

16.Go to STRING TABLE--- 38 --- 1033

right pane youŽll have:

STRINGTABLE
LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US
{
593, "Notification Area"
594, "Running Applications"
595, "start"
603, "The application is either too busy or unable to respond to your request to close."
604, "Forcing it to close may cause that application to lose data. Do you want to force it to close?"
}

17.again change the start word between the quotation marks and then click on the COMPILE SCRIPT button

18.Still on Resource HAcker go to FILE and click on Save (NOT save as)

19.go back to the Windows Task Manager and click on File--New task(RUN) and type in explorer.exe ---- OK

20. If you have followed my instructions the taskbar will show up now with your new word....no more START button.....now you have YOUR button...
If it gives an error message then you did something wrong...go back to the 2nd step and do it all again.....or put back the file that you previously backed up

21. It looks complicated but its not! I just put all the eXtra steps so that the new people that never customised their machine can follow and also iŽm pretty sure that someone can come up with a batch file or a tweak program to do these steps (if you like to tweak the registry then this is just as easy ....)

NOTE: by the way, why wait to the MUI language packs to be released? with this you can change any word or phrase in explorer.exe to a different language, ie. iŽve change my girlfriendŽs XP to spanish....OK it takes a little while but itŽs what tweaking is all about....

NOTE2:You can also change the colours, grafics, etc, etc,...

NOTE3:you can also put the themes files in the filelist.xml like we did with explorer.exe. That way WE can make new XP themes and share them...
If anyone come up with a cool explorer.exe you can share it with us.....

thank you

VoiX

Aanvulling:

delete C;/Windows/system32/dllcache/explorer.exe

Copieer ff de normale explorer vanuit Windows naar temp en je kan aan de slag. De tekst "start" staat achter

String Table -> 37 -> 1033
String Table -> 38 -> 1033

Gewoon cancel drukken
