Hey all:
There are some changes underway here at United Devices that we wanted you to be aware of.

As I am sure many of you noticed, the web site is being redesigned. If you didn't notice, then you are probably new, so welcome!

The latest version of the agent will be released today if all goes well. Version 2 of the agent will bring some features that were requested by you, our members, and some that were required/desired by our management and customers to help the agent's evolution.

The server software that the agent connects to will also be updated for the same reasons.

To this end, the servers will be down for a couple of hours today. During this time, as always, the member web pages will be unavailable, and agents will not be able to connect. Expect connection delays ("unable to connect... backing off" errors) once the servers are back up as bandwidth is consumed pushing the updated agent.

Here is what you can expect with the new agent:



Terminal Services Handling: The agent has been modified to prevent multiple instances loading on a machine. This will prevent false results from being returned during a Terminal Services session.

Laptop Battery Awareness: There has been concern by the mobile members of our community that the agent was not laptop friendly. The new version of the agent will detect when the laptop is running on battery power and will go into Snooze mode for the duration. When the laptop is connected to the power supply again, the agent will resume work. It is recommended that laptops themselves be snoozed/suspended for transport, as the agent does not actually save during this time; it merely pauses.

Suggested Member Name: When installing the agent on a machine, it will read the Windows log in name and insert it into the Member Name field. This is just a suggested name, however, and can be modified by the member to suit their tastes.

Suggested Proxy Settings: When installing the agent on a machine, it will read the current proxy settings in Internet Options and load them into its own proxy settings. However it will not use them, meaning it will not set itself to use a proxy. The reason for this is that those settings can be retained by Windows even though Internet Options is set not to use a proxy server. If the use of proxy settings is required, they are available in the agent and can be activated by setting the agent to use a proxy server. If different proxy settings are required, they can be modified.

Processor Benchmark Display: The agent will now display a benchmark rating of the processor. This replaces the previous display of the Mhz comparison of the processor.

Revamped Help Files: The help files in the agent have been redone.

Alles ligt vanaf gisterenmiddag al plat.
En dat, terwijl ik m'n buffervoorraad net niet op heb kunnen laden. En voor vanavond zie ik me dat ook nog niet kunnen doen. Alle 50 Komeetjes staan dus stil.
Geen topscore dus vandaag (en gisteren ook al niet :( ).

Shit happens... >:)
Van mij hadden ze die downtime ook ietsje eerder mogen aankondigen :(

Vanaf morgen tellen we weer een beetje mee!

Als je op het knipperende uitroepteken dubbelklikt, forceer je een nieuwe poging om te connecten, in plaats van pas na twee minuten. Ik heb zo vandaag alle devices weer aan de gang kunnen krijgen. Hij moet ooit wel 10 keer opnieuw proberen, maar het lukt wel. Het is gewoon druk op de server omdat veel computers tegelijk proberen te updaten. :)
