First, Firmware is drivers. Second, you only need CD drivers for DOS mode, and not for windows. Check in system properties, to see if your Primary or secondary IDE controller is working properly. If driver is wrong for controller, it will force CD to run in dos compatibility mode, which can make it useless. Also check properties for CDRW, and make sure there is no check in DMA box.
