Motd.txt File

Message Of The Day is an excellent Half-Life feature, allowing server admins to communicate with their clients, leaving messages as to who to contact for bugs or suggestions, or where the clients can go to check out server stats or to download server mappacks, etc. The only problem with MOTD is that is rarely works. It is a Valve bug - they are aware of the issue and are working on it, so please don't email us about it not working. The only reason I am including this is because at some point it will be fully functional, and you will need to know how to do it. Basically, create a text file and rename it to "motd.txt". Then type whatever you want up to 10 lines (don't quote me on that number, I am guesstimating there). Each line of text is centered, so say you have a motd.txt file that looks like this:

Welcome To Geronimo's Counter-Strike Beta4 Server
Email Geronimo with Map Suggestions

Now, quit reading - Go forth and kick ass!

When clients view the MOTD upon entering a server, they will see it as:

Welcome To Geronimo's Counter-Strike Beta4 Server
Email Geronimo with Map Suggestions

Now, quit reading - Go forth and kick ass!

Neat, huh? Now, quit reading - Go forth and run a kick ass Counter-Strike server!
