[BC3] Modem beschermen tegen ATH0 attacks

Sommigen vinden het leuk om mbv ping een +++ATH0 naar een bepaald IP te sturen (met als gevolg dus een disconnect van het modem op dat IP). Beetje flauw, dus wat is hier tegen te doen? Had iets gehoord van resetguards ofzo, iemand meer info?

Hmmmm, ik ben de laatste tijd ook vrij vaak offline, m''n modem reset zich vaak. Maar ja, kan ook aan m''n Chello verbinding liggen (die de laatste tijd echt een beetje minder begint te worden )
Vaak modem resets en vaak lag met Unreal Tournament.

Patch: ping -c 1 -p 2b2b2b415453323d32353526574f310d host

A more effective patch can be applied at the console.. You can reset
your S2 register to 255 and this will keep your modem from executing
commands it recieves from other users who may be testing out the -p
of their ping command on you.

To reset your S2 register do this:
Open: Control Panel\Modems\Select your modem\Properties\Connection tab\
Advanced\
Edit: Extra Settings Textbox to say "s2=255"
Finish: Now reconnect to the internet and you''re patched!

NOTEs: if you''re vulnerable to this attack and attempt to send the -p
exploit to somebody you might disconnect yourself. also, there
aren''t any USR modems known to be exploitable by this bug.

The bug fix for this exploit was discovered by pr00f (meet him on DalNet IRC in #hackerzlair) and he has kindly allowed me to publish it here and it is now included in the ATH0 Exploit program itself. The fix is for Windows 9x but I''m sure is easy enough to figure out how to fix this problem on other operating systems just by looking at the fix itself.

You edit the registry at your own risk, if you are not confident with editing the registry then read no further!

Run regedit and look for the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Modem\0000

Create a string value in that key called UserInit and give it a value of s2=255. Now reboot the computer and your modem will be patched. If you have descriptions of how to do this fix in other operating systems then please e-mail them to me at [e-mail] so that I can publish them here and include them in the software.
