Pro Logic II Technology Explodes onto
Home Theater Market
San Francisco, April 4, 2001?Dolby Laboratories'' Pro Logic II technology, the next generation of Pro Logic decoding, has burst upon the home theater market with several new decoders currently shipping and many more becoming available in the coming months.
"Pro Logic II is becoming widely available to home theater enthusiasts. Listeners can now enjoy a richer 5.1-like surround experience for Dolby Surround-encoded content, and enjoy a believable multichannel effect from their existing stereo music mixes. Some Pro Logic II receivers are priced under $300, making the technology even more accessible to the listening public," said Brent Butterworth, Marketing Director, Consumer Products, Dolby Laboratories.
In addition to the new receivers equipped with Pro Logic II, it is even possible that some existing Pro Logic products can be upgraded to perform Pro Logic II decoding via methods such as CD-Rom uploads, Internet-based coding downloads, or inserting a Pro Logic II decoding chip.
About Pro Logic II
Consumers enthusiastically demand 5.1-channel sound in new programs of all kinds. But vast numbers of programs already exist in stereo and Dolby Surround, and many more will continue to arrive in years to come. Pro Logic II lets consumers enjoy these programs with a convincing 5.1-like presentation.
Pro Logic II can decode the thousands of existing Dolby Surround movies and television shows already on the shelf, compatibly, and with enhanced image stability. The improvements in decoding techniques mean that the discreteness of the sound field elements are better-preserved in the decoding process than was possible with the now universally standard Pro Logic technology, developed in the mid-80s.
