Traditionally, the battle to be the PC pro Labs Winner is hard-fought, with two or three products vying for the accolade to the very last moment. This month?s Labs was different, however, with one product dominating proceedings from start to finish to run away with the overall honours. The first sign of the Philips Brilliance 150P?s dominance was in our quality tests, where it excelled thinks to impressive viewing angels, video playback and colour reproduction. We also found it very easy to optimise the 150P?s picture just press the automatic setup button and the clock phase and image position adjustments are set at their optimal values in the blink of an eye. While the rest of the field were recovering from the Brilliance?s early charge, Philips confirmed its top position by including an incredible array of features. Not content with supplying a pair of integrated stereo speakers, a microphone and the capacity to add four downstream USB ports into the base, Philips found room in the budget for a DVI input, allowing those with the latest in graphics card technology to benefit from a pixel-perfect picture. With the 15OP?s list price at £829, some of the less expensive panels were still in contention for an Honourable Mention thanks to value for money. That was until we looked into the Brilliance?s street price. At the time of publication, the prices ranged from £649 to £675, which compares well with even the cheapest panel on test. For a panel with the best features and quality scores, this is nothing short of a remarkable achievement. Go out and buy one
