Independence War 2 Beta - Setting up a server
Despite not actually being in the beta test yet, I''ve found the beta test forums (with some assistance from John Hart ;-)) and found out how to set up a server for you guys. (Now you know why I can be called Nanoprobe. ;-))
According to John''s own post, this is how you do it:
1. In the root of the installation directory (usually "C:\Program Files\IW2EOC_InternetBeta"), create a text file named server.bat.
2. Type the following text into server.bat:
bin\release\loader -ac iwar2.icServerApp - sn "yourservername" -c
Where an appropriate name replaces yourservername - but leave it in quotes.
3. Edit the file flux.ini. Make ONLY the following changes. Any other changes have a significant probability of screwing up the game and will certainly cast doubt over any bugs you send us (which makes your usefulness to the beta test as a whole rather questionable...).
a. Under [FcServer]:
i. Change the query_location value to your zipcode.
ii. Set the ai_bots_count value to any number you desire
iii. Set the cycle_packages[0] value to either dm (for deathmatch) or tdm (for team deathmatch).
iv. If you want the server to alternate deathmatch and teamdeathmatch, insert a new line just under cycle_packages[0] which will read cycle_packages[1]= and then put in the other of dm or tdm that you don''t have in the [0] line.
b. Under [icServerApp]:
i. Set the host_name value to match yourservername from the server.bat file.
ii. Set the package value to either iDeathMatch or iTeamDeathMatch - this will be the game that is first run when the server.bat file is run.
iii. Set the max_players value to any value up to 16, but we *don''t* recommend values over 10 for almost any system but the very top end ones.
iv. Set the time_limit value to any number of seconds that you want your games to last.
v. Set your score_limit value to the number of frags needed to win a game.
5. Launch the server.bat file.
And there you have it. Note that obviously this is beta code, so it''s not guaranteed to work. In fact the person who posted right after this stated he had troubles making it work. Also I''m not certain whether it''s for an Internet or LAN server, but I believe it''s for the LAN, as John Hart said on the North American forums that on the beta forums he stated how to set up a LAN server, which is what this must be.
Now I''m confused.
