IBM DTLA Philippines have problems
Still waiting for official confirmation

AS WE REPORTED LAST WEEK, A Dutch IBM distributor claimed IBM has stopped production of all 75GXP drives and now only makes 60GXP drives.
Unfortunately, this does not mean that you will get a new one if your DTLA drive also known as 75GXP died recently but it does mean if you take a DTLA drive to the distributor you have a very good chance to get the 60GXP drive introduced in November 2000.
However, there seems to be bad news for users with IBM drives manufactured in Philippines, according to this user, at least:
"I am the not-so-proud owner of 5 30gig DTLA drives form the Philippines. Two have head-crashed within 14days of usage. We cannibalized the other three headsets to recover the data - to no avail."
This means that there are certainly some Philippines drives out there with problems too.
Other users said:
"Me and a friend have 5 DTLA drives (15,30 and 45GB). 2 of the drives already had problems with "bad sectors". In 1 case I lost data. As a result I don''t recommend IBM IDE drives to other people."
Big Blue had good reviews of these DTLA drives all over the Web, but so far we have not heard officially whether the firm will recall it or not. We''re waiting to hear.
