NA ff wezen looken op het internet kwam ik het os eComStation tegen. Nu wou ik graag weten of iemand hier meer over weet, want als ik de info moet geloven die ik heb gelezen kan dit os alles wat windows ook kan. ZOu dus graag willen weten of iemand hier info over heeft, screenshots en dat soort dingen, is nl nog al prijzig om ff uit te proberen.

eComStation incorporates innovative features which enable the workstation to function as a Mobile Managed Client(tm), combining the design benefits of PCs with benefits previously associated with Network Computers or thin clients. Used with Serenity Systems'' acclaimed WiseManager, the entire computing environment can be managed by a fee service provider from any location over Wide Area Networks or even over the Internet.

In its first release, eComStation will run many Windows, DOS, Java, and OS/2 applications and can be a replacement for existing PC operating systems. Later this year Serenity Systems expects to announce support for Linux and expanded support for Windows. eComStation can run thin clients but also scales up to powerful workstations using IBM''s Symmetric Multi-Processor (SMP) support for up to 64 processors, and IBM''s Journaling File System (JFS).

eComStation is designed with a focus on the Internet driven needs of ebusiness and ecommerce. Licensing agreements between IBM and Serenity Systems provide eComStation with a great deal of network integration and connectivity support, including the back-end support to highly scalable, multi-tier servers and databases. eComStation incorporates IBM''s Desktop on-Call, remote control software designed to allow authorized users to take over a remote PC. This feature enables users to get operational support from anywhere in the organization or anywhere in the world.

It is based on the kernel of
OS/2 Warp Server for eBusiness, which has been
greatly enhanced from OS/2 Warp 4.
Besides this
enhanced kernel, eComStation will have some extra features:
* Full copy of Lotus SmartSuite 1.6

IBM Desktop On Call (enables you to take
over your desktop from any Java enabled webbrowser,
within your LAN or at the other side
of the world
* Serenity Systems WiseMachine (the
WiseMachine from Serenity Systems enables you to drag
and drop deploy applications on your workstation). This
offers a lot of advantages which are discussed
here in detail
* Additional applications IBM
took out of the Convenience Pak, like VoiceType,
BonusPak etc.
* Optionally SMP, which until now
was only available in the Advanced Server editions
of OS/2.
Two versions of eComStation are available:

eComStation (standard), NOW INCLUDES JFS!
* eComStation Pro SMP
- this version is able to run on
multi-processor systems (up to 64 processors!) and offers
very high performance
The upgrade version is only
valid from OS/2 Warp 4 and can be
purchased until July 31, 2001.
