NexGen Processor?

Hoi,
heeft er iemand wel eens gehoord van een processor van het merk NexGen.
Ik kreeg er van de week eentje binnen (in de winkel) en had er nog nooit van gehoord, en win98 waarschijnlijk ook niet want dat wilde er maar niet op draaien (win95 wel) hij was trouwen 100MHz.

ik geloof dat AMD het bedrijf dat deze processor maakt(e) heeft overgenomen en die techniek gebruikt heeft om de K5 mee te maken

het was een erg vaag processortje heel veel pinnetjes oner de processor veel meer dan bij een socket7 processor.
en win98 gaaf aan dat het minimaal een 486processor nodig heeft om te werken. maar die processor werkte toch echt op 103MHz.
op het mainbord zaten trouwens enkele vage chips ook van het merk nexgen.

Was het overigens toch de oorsprong niet van de K5 maar de K6 (totaal ander ontwerp)?

Waar heb je'm vandaan? Wil eigenlijk ook wel zo eentje voor in het museum

Die NexGen processors waren vervangers voor de snelle 486 processors van Intel en AMD en de langzamere Pentiums van Intel. Het waren in principe goede processoren met, toen, baanbrekende techniek... Gelukkig zag AMD dat ook in en heeft het toen maar opgekocht.. Ik dacht dat je die processoren op een 486 mobo moet zetten...

volgens mij sla je dáár de plank mis. De Athlon is dacht ik ontwikkelt uit de Alpha. (weer iets anders dus)

Problem
I have a NexGen processor. Windows 95 recognizes it as a 386 so Pitfall will not run.

Solution
NexGen merged with AMD in January,1996. AMD has a file that will help the operating system identify the processor correctly. This is available for download at AMD's website.

Download the correct file for you system:

Use UPDTVL30.EXE for a Nexgen processor with a VLB board.
Use UPDTPI30.EXE for a Nexgen processor with a PCI board.

AMD had de zwaar tegenvallende K5, kocht toen NexGen, en samen maakten ze de K6. De orginele NexGen CPU had geen FPU, die heeft AMD gelukkig toegevoegd (al was het niet zo'n goede).

AMD heeft later een aantal mensen bij Alpha weggekocht waarvan er een leiding heeft gegeven aan het K7 (Athlon) project.
