Ik heb een zelfbouw proxmox-server met daarin 3x een uitvoering: Toshiba MG09 (SATA, Standard, 512e), 18TB. Ik draai Truenas in een VM om de zfs-pool aan te maken en zaken zoals smb-sharing te regelen.

De drie schijven zitten in een RAIDZ1-pool.

De server staat op rubber matjes (die je normaal onder je wasmachine doet), want het geratel van de schijven hoor ik anders door mijn gehele huis. Ik wilde de server een klein stukje verschuiven en dacht dat te kunnen doen terwijl de server aan stond. Je voelt 'm misschien al aankomen: 1 voetje van de server belandde nét naast het rubber matje waardoor de kast daar 2 cm naar beneden ging en de kast scheef stond, terwijl de schijven in de kast vrolijk rondjes draaiden.. Stom, maar daar doe ik nu niks meer aan.

Meteen een melding binnen Truenas dat de pool degraded was door fouten bij één schijf (SDC):

(Hieronder volgen allemaal screenshots van tekst omdat ik geen idee heb hoe ik tekst kan kopieëren uit de noVNC-webbrowser shell)

Nu heb ik nog weinig ervaring met ZFS-pools, dus ik heb ai (Claude) om advies gevraagd. Die adviseerde om in de shell van Truenas een smartscan te doen:

Volgens Claude geeft het feit dat het ICRC-fouten zijn aan aan dat er waarschijnlijk met de schijf niks mis is, maar iets met de interface. Zoals kabels die niet meer goed zitten.

Ik heb de server uitgeschakeld en alle sata en voedingskabels losgemaakt en weer ingeplugged. Server aangezet, de pool gecleared en een scrub uitgevoerd. Er waren 130 errors waarvan 0 byte gerepareerd kon worden. De pool leek weer even te werken, maar al snel was schijf SDC weer weer degraded en de pool suspended:

Paar dagen geen tijd gehad om ermee verder te gaan, tot zojuist. Voor de zekerheid toch weer de server uitgezet, alle kabels los en weer vast. Server aan.

Verrassing, nu is schijf SDD opeens het probleem:

Ik heb de server een powercycle gegeven en nu is SDB het probleem?

Heb ik drie kapotte schijven? Is er wat anders aan de hand? En vooral: hoe nu verder? :)

@BCC maar in het eerste screenshot van de zpool status is het juist de schijf ea7acbf3 die degraded is en de rest online. Dus welke schijf als 'kapot' wordt aangemerkt wisselt.

edit: ah je hebt je post al aangepast :)

Nog geen memtest gedaan. Niet aan gedacht omdat ik het probleem ontstond toen de kast een beetje scheef ging; ik verwacht dan het probleem bij een draaiende schijf en niet bij de reepjes geheugen. Kan ik wellicht vannacht wel laten draaien, een memtest.

Ik heb nog geen memtest gedaan, kon gisteravond zo snel niet een usb-stick vinden.

Heb wel een scrub laten doen op de array:

errors: 321 data errors, use '-v' for a list

Het verbaast me wel dat er 321 errors zijn en dat er (net als bij de eerdere scrubs) 0B gerepareerd kan worden.

Verder geeft de TrueNAS gui aan dat er 0 errors zijn bij het scrubben, maar dat zal dan wel slaan op dat het scrubben zelf niet mislukt is?

Nu hopen dat de boel blijft werken, ik heb natuurlijk eerder een 'succesvolle' scrub gehad en een pool die netjes online was, om vervolgens weer in elkaar te stortte.

Maar kan het niet je voeding zijn? Als alles nét te weinig spanning krijgt kan het ook raar gaan doen :)

Jij gebruikte Claude, ik had eens Gemini gebruikt - die trekt snel conclusies, maar mijn eigen feedback was eerst de voeding, maar nu komt Gemini met het volgende - had je hier al eens naar gekeken?

Is wel een beetje lui antwoord - ... :x maar had het zelf niet sneller en / of beter kunnen verwoorden.
Stap 1: BIOS-instellingen
Laat hem in de BIOS van het ASUS-moederbord zoeken naar:

Aggressive Link Power Management (ALPM): Zet dit op Disabled.

SATA Hot Plug: Zet dit op Enabled voor alle gebruikte poorten. Dit dwingt de controller om toleranter te zijn voor schijven die "even weg" zijn.

Stap 2: Stroomvoorziening controleren
Zorg dat de drie schijven niet op één daisy-chain kabel van de voeding zitten. Verdeel ze over zoveel mogelijk aparte kabels die uit de voeding komen. Gebruik geen splitters.

Stap 3: Softwarematige check (TrueNAS/Proxmox)
Als hij TrueNAS gebruikt (zoals in de screenshot te zien is), moet hij kijken of "Power Management" voor de schijven in de GUI aanstaat. Zet alle schijven op "Level 254" of "Disabled" (geen spindown).

Stap 4: De Pool resetten
Zodra de BIOS-instellingen zijn aangepast:

zpool clear serenity

zpool scrub serenity

Houd de console open en typ: dmesg -w. Als er nu een schijf uitvalt, zie je direct een melding als "resetting link" of "hard resetting link". Dat bevestigt een stroom/controller probleem.

Conclusie
Hij heeft geen drie kapotte schijven. Hij heeft een server die de schijven "in slaap sust" of ze niet genoeg stabiele stroom geeft, waardoor de communicatie hapert.
