Why is this site called project X?.......
Project X is the codeName of OpenOS
A Operating System based on AtheOS ,A free opensource Os which is binary compatible with linux. So almost all non-gui linux apps can be ported to the OS
So what does this project want to do with AtheOS??
The goal of this project is to creat a operating system which is very user friendly, binary and Gui compatible with Linux and Windows apps (this can be done with Wine) Which is a piece of software which functions as a layer so you can run Microsoft® Windows® programs on Linux and in this case OpenOS. We also want to inplant various user interfaces, so you can use the classic and most user friendly GUI of MS® Windows® or KDE® or even BeOS® thru the open source User interface for BeOS® OpenTracker
Why create an OS? There are already many Operating Systems
We listen to user feedback.
We only create the product, it's the end user that defines it. OpenOS is going to be a powerful Operating system capable of performing the way you want it too. And we hope to diliver a solid product towards you guys :-)
But we Can't do this Alone, we need YOUR help!!
A operating system is a very large chunk of code. So we cant do this by ourselves, that's why we need you to help us, with porting drivers (from Linux) or writing new drivers. Writing programs, and most of al: helping with the development of the os itselve.
you can even help with the structure of the OS, you don't have to know a programming language, we need people for the graphics, icons, and even the cursors that's why everybody can help, and that;s just what we need!! Al the help is needed to let this project succeed and not die like many other projects like this one
