Replacing coax with ethernet

Good evening everyone,

Sorry for posting in english and please feel free to respond in Dutch.
I want to replace my coax cable in my house with a cat6 cable, but I'm unsure where the cable ends up. I have attached a picture of the ground floor where I have 1 wall panel, this I believe used to be for old internet, and then 1 other wall plug on the first floor.

However, I don't see any cables that look like coax in my meterkast?
Is there a place where these usually come together? Should i open this box and see?

Appreciate any feedback or help

Groene coax komt van buiten. Dus daar is ook niets aan te vervangen. Als je zeggen hebt, dan komt t internet ook via deze kabel binnen.
Linksonder zie ik nog witte kabel. Dat zou je kunnen vervangen, als t in pvc leidingen ligt. Maar ook best kans dat t vast is gelegd. T zal naar 'logische' plekken gaan waar je een tv verwacht.

Like said, it's the connection from the street to your house. It doesn't go to your "meterkast".
Older houses often have a coax and telephone connection in the living room, directly from the street.

Green coax is the color from the operator, in house is normally white, beige or grey.

Ok thanks, so if possible I should try and pull that white wire and see if it ends up upstairs? I know that both green wires are internet from outside, but I thought maybe inside the box on the wall, there would be the coax going upstairs

je kan utp aan je coax vastmaken en dan aan je coax trekken. Dan trek je de coax eruit en neemt de utp er de plaats van in.

Maar het ziet er naar uit dat deze witte coax helemaal niet door een leiding gaat. Als hij ergens in de muur vastgezet is, is de kans groot dat je de UTP lostrekt als je aan de coax op de verdieping erboven gaat trekken. Het proberen waard, maar met de kans dat t mis gaat.

Misschien een betere optie is een lange plastic trekveer aan de coax vastmaken zodat je die naar de eerste trekt, en dan aan die veer weer utp vastmaken en terugtrekken.

Daar komt dus coax binnen. Daar de coax kabel uittrekken en een CAT kabel er in trekken zou de vraag op moeten lossen.

Bij voorkeur met twee personen de nieuwe kabel er in trekken. Eén persoon trekken, één persoon de kabel invoeren.

Thanks Sypie! So can I then pull the cable from the first picture (downstairs), and hopefully it will end up here? Is it better to do this with a veer first or is it ok to tie the cat6 cable to the coax and pull? Is cat6 the best option here?

Als de coax er (heel) makkelijk uit gaat dan kun je de CAT aan de COAX vast maken. In het ergste geval moet je alsnog met de trekveer aan de slag.

Voordat je begint: heb je een multimeter in huis?

Ja, deze zou ik even open maken om te kijken of er in de doos misschien een grijze kabel ergens anders naar toe gaat. In de aansluiting op de eerste verdieping komt namelijk een grijze kabel binnen. Je moet wel eerst duidelijk hebben waar die vandaan komt.

Yes I have one. Should I use the aluminium foil trick to try to find out where the cable ends up?

I've put foil in the top 2 coax ports but I'm not getting a signal on the cables in the last picture. The one seems to be stripped? And the other only has the single copper wire. Do I have to connect a coax cable to this white wire to test?

Die 2 witte kabels zullen waarschijnlijk naar de 2 aansluitpunten gaan, die andere in de woonkamer en de doos boven.

Zullen misschien in een pvc buis liggen en kun je dan vervangen door cat kabel. Andere doos er op en klaar.

Wat je kunt doen om te controleren of de 2 kabels onder de aansluitdoos ook daadwerkelijk naar de andere ruimtes gaan: zorg dat van 1 kabel de koperen kern verbinding maakt met de afscherming van de kabel. Daarna meet je met de multimeter in de andere ruimte of kern en de afscherming sluiting maken. Wanneer dat zo is weet je welke kabel het is. Daarna kun je dit herhalen met de andere kabel.

Het vervangen zal wel een aardige klus worden omdat de COAX kabels onder de plint doorgaan de muur in. Hoe dat is gedaan en of de kabels door een pvc buis gaan is niet te zien.

If you can easily replace the coax cables, great. However, if it proves to be difficult, have a look at MoCA solutions. That enables ethernet over coax cables. Installed that at a large number of (old) places, and in my experience works great and never had a downgrade compared to the internet speed available - even with coax cables from decades ago. I've always used the solutions from Hirschmann (Inca), but apparently they went bankrupt. There are other companies as well that use this MoCA technology, but not never used them - so can't comment on their quality/stability.

p.s. to be sure, it can't be compared with powerline ethernet, which usually disappoints for me.

I can't seem to find any signal on the first floor box. I'm considering just starting to pull the cable on the first floor and see which one moves from the ground floor? Maybe the cable itself is broken somewhere and that's why I'm not getting signal?
