Title: Can I safely replace a KRK VXT8 tweeter (TWTK00020)

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching out to see if anyone has experience with this or could offer some advice.

I recently picked up a pair of KRK VXT8 studio monitors with blown tweeters. As many of you probably know, these speakers have been out of production for a while, and the original replacement tweeter (TWTK00020) is incredibly hard to find — either out of stock or discontinued everywhere I look.

I noticed that the tweeter from the KRK VXT6 (part number TWTK00019) looks almost identical in size and design to the one in the VXT8. I actually own a pair of VXT6s, and visually the tweeters seem the same — same dome, same screw holes, same front plate, etc.

However, I'm unsure if there are electrical or acoustic differences between the two that would make it unsafe or unwise to use the TWTK00019 in a VXT8. I know that the VXT8 likely drives the tweeter with more power, so I’m worried about impedance mismatches, power handling, or frequency response issues that could mess up the balance or even damage the tweeter.

Has anyone ever tried this swap? Is it safe and functional, or is it likely to cause damage or throw off the sound balance?

Any insight or shared experience would be massively appreciated! I’m just trying to bring these otherwise great monitors back to life.

I would take both tweeters out and compare them side to side. Maybe there's a label on the magnet with more information. My monitors come in different sizes, ranging from 3.5 to 8 inch, but the tweeters are all identical, although they run with more power in the larger models. I have this old car, front control arms aren't available anymore, but a 30 years younger model uses the exact same arms, with a different part number.
