• Is my Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Dolby Digital recognised? And in what way?
Your Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 is both hardware and software tested and certified by Dolby Laboratories for Dolby Digital decoding capability. This ensures that you as the customer will be able to enjoy Dolby Digital playback / reproduction as intended by the movie producers or game publishers.
• Can I connect the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 audio cards output to my Home Theater system?
Absolutely. For connection to a Dolby Digital Ready A/V receiver, you will want to leave the Sound Blaster Live 5.1s settings at their installation defaults. You can then connect mini plug to RCA phono plug adapter cables from the audio card to the 5.1 inputs on your A/V receiver. These cables are not included with the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 audio card products, however they are commonly available at consumer electronics dealers.
• Can I encode / produce Dolby Digital files with Sound Blaster Live! 5.1?
The Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 will decode Dolby Digital encoded material. There are a number of software and hardware authoring packages that are available for users interested in creating their own Dolby Digital files or DVDs. The majority of these software and hardware products are intended for professional or industrial use.
• Can I listen to Dolby Digital encoded audio CD with my Sound Blaster Live! 5.1?
Yes, you can. Dolby Digital encoded audio materials are not yet available on normal CD-ROM disks due to the larger disk requirements to hold the Dolby Digital encoded materials. There are however, Dolby Digital encoded music video /MTV materials available in DVD format. Please note that a DVD-ROM drive is necessary for DVD playback.
• Can I play Dolby Digital encoded games with my Sound Blaster Live! 5.1?
Yes, you are able to play these games. Note that a majority of these games are published in DVD format which you will need a DVD-ROM drive to playback these games.
• Can I use the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 to playback DTS titles?
All DTS encoded DVDs will also have a Dolby Digital track encoded on it. The Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 will decode Dolby Digital AC-3 information that is encoded on every DVD.
• Do I have to have a separate Dolby Digital decoder with the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 series of audio cards?
With the default settings as initially installed, the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 audio cards decode Dolby Digital content for output to analog devices such as the Cambridge SoundWorks DTT2200 system or for input to a Dolby Digital Ready A/V receiver. While the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 family of products does have the capability of sending a Dolby Digital AC-3 signal to an external decoding device, it is not necessary to use an external decoder.
• Do I need other equipment to watch DVD movies in addition to a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1?
In addition to the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1, you will also want to have a DVD-ROM drive, a software DVD player capable of passing Dolby Digital AC-3 to the sound card, and a CPU that is equivalent to a 300 MHz Pentium II as a minimum.
