We are planning to install solar panels on both our slanted roof (slates) = very expensive quotes here and very few interested parties, and our flat roof.
My question is regarding the flat roof as we have a high "edge" on the roof (I a not sure how to call it) which goes up 80 cm vs the flat roof itself. It is just the continuation of the slanted roof itself.
Now looking at the space itself, as it is a twee-onder-een-kap, the width is only 2.6m, length 10m, and orientation is south east.
I was wondering, and looking everywhere for a solution on how to "elevate" the solar panels so that they do not suffer from excessive shadow due the roof edge (80 cm) since it is narrow, I have to put them close to it.
One of the company that finally answered said that they could install 2 to 4 paving stones under each foot of the system so that the panels are elevated. Also they changed their offer by turning the solar panel to be vertical (facing south west and went from optimisers to micro-inverters).
Now, while I am not sure which orientation is better, I am wondering if I could not also install XPS panels on top of by bitumen roof then install the solar panels, and put back the current gravel that is there. I am not talking 80cm of XPS, but possibly two plates of 20 or something. I am not talking about covering the entire roof just where the installation will be made (no inverted roof, although would be better but I am yet to find a company experienced in that around The Hague / or even insulating on top of the bitumen and installing a new layer of bitumen).
(FYI, we received a 8k euro quote to remove bitumen and insulate warm roof for what is basically 30 m2 so we decided to do it from the inside/cold roof)
