Font rendering in Mai after update to MacOS Monterey (12.1)

I have a MacBook pro (2019, Intel chip).
After updating to MacOS Monterey (12.1) I have a problem with the fonts in Apple Mail.

I normally write my mails in 12 pts Arial.
This font is now rendered much smaller, on screen and in print.
It looks like font size 9 pts, although the Mail program says that it is 12 pts.
When I change the font size to 18 pts, the resulting letters look like 12 pts.
So I am using that as a temporary workaround, but this is not a normal situation.

The problem occurs only in Apple Mail.
E.g. in MS Word for the Mac the font size is rendered normally.

Does anybody have the same problem?
I would very much appreciate if you could help me with this.
