Does anyone have an idea how to turn a real picture into a 3D printable "picture"
...

I have tried to use online tools like 3Dp-rock etc.. (many of those tools out there), but also with fusion 360 i have not succeeded.
the problem is that there are always "spikes" in the higher surfaces,. no smooth transition of the heights it creates.
attached also an example of those "spike"s.

...

The picture attached of the chocolate coin is the goal.
All ideas are welcome ! ;)

Your pictures don't seem to be working.

Besides that: there isn't really any way to turn a 2d picture into a perfect 3d object automatically as far as I'm aware. There's a few decent ways like using a script in Fusion360 but that obviously can make some errors as you've found out.

You could take a top down picture and use that as a canvas to base your CAD drawing of.

Another way would perhaps be using an iPhone with a 3d scanning app, from what I've heard they're not too bad, although the detail you're looking for might not be possible to achieve.

Hi,

i'll try the pictures again.. fingers crossed they come through this time. Maybe that gives a better view of what i'm trying to achieve. As you can see is has been done before.

I was trying to avoid re-drawing the complete photo again :-) lazy me...

thx for the feedback,

I have seen a lot of 3d prints of a pretty similar process, making lithophanes

Tutorial steps:

Maybe one of the processes here is what you're looking for :)
