Ik heb hier in mijn homelab een SuperMicro server draaien waar ESXi 6.7 op draait (192.168.1.1). Het gekke is dat soms de verbinding naar deze server wegvalt. En dan specifiek alleen de management omgeving. De virtuele servers draaien verder naar behoren en zijn 100% van de tijd verbonden met het netwerk.

Het is ook niet zo dat de verbinding af en toe wegvalt, het is zo erg dat ik de boel eigenlijk niet kan beheren. Het frappante is dat de VM's wél gewoon te pingen zijn. Het is een hele simpele rechttoe rechtaan setup. Alle netwerkinstellingen binnen ESXi staan standaard. Wie kan helpen? :)

Wat heb ik al geprobeerd?
  • De server opnieuw gestart
  • Ingelogd via IPMI en het management network opnieuw gestart
  • Gezocht in de KB van VMware, kan echter geen vergelijkbare situatie vinden

als de vm's wel gewoon bereikbaar blijven lijkt het inderdaad niet perse op een netwerk issue. Ik zou eens gaan rondsnuffelen in de logfiles op de esxi server in /scratch/log

En, probeer het eens andersom? Vanaf de host een ping/trace naar elders laten lopen? Waar is de rest van je configuratie-gegevens? Wat staat er in de logging van ESX? Heb je eventueel SNMP op (tussenliggende) componenten en kan je daar iets uit halen?

Na nogmaals de ESXi server te hebben herstart gaf hij nu zelf een statisch IP-adres (192.168.1.124). Zodra ik deze aanpastte en de instellingen op wilde slaan kreeg ik de melding: "Setting ip/ipv6 configuration failed: Unable to Set: Sysinfo error: Address already in use".

Wat bleek? Iets of iemand (waarschijnlijk ik zelf) had 192.168.1.1 als vast IP-adres op vmk0 ingesteld. Daardoor werkte het natuurlijk niet. Opgelost! _/-\o_
