At the IFA conference in Berlin (August 25 - September 2, 2001), Philips will introduce the world's first DVD+RW drive for PCs, the DVDRW208. The product is scheduled for release in October at the cost of approx. EUR 1000.
The drive will write DVD+RW, CD-R and CD-RW discs, and will read almost all optical formats, including CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD+RW, DVD-RW and DVD-R. After a firmware update, the drive will also be able to write to the write once DVD+R format, unique to DVD+RW drives.
