Denk dat Tweakers als de grootste Tech sites van NL, een open brief naar MS zou moeten schrijven met de vraag wat “unsupported” voor eindgebruikers nu echt betekend, voor 5 oktober, net zoals ExtremeTech heeft gedaan in hun open brief.

If you want to run 3ds Max on a GeForce, nobody will stop you. If you want Autodesk to certify that your PC should run 3ds Max without a problem and offer professional support if it refuses to do so, you’d best be running a specific, supported set of hardware and software.

The other meaning of “unsupported” is a straightforward “It doesn’t work”, So when Microsoft says “You are not entitled to receive updates and we don’t officially support this hardware configuration,” does that mean “Installing Windows 11 is itself an unacceptable security risk” or does it mean “We reserve the right to be dicks in the future, but for now, we’ll continue acting as if we understand the critical role our systems play in worldwide PC infrastructure.”

Microsoft announced that it would allow unofficial OS installs, but unofficial support without security updates is worse than no support at all.

Microsoft needs to have the guts to speak plainly on this issue. If Microsoft intends to withhold security updates on unsupported systems, tell people that.

De open brief/artikel is zoals gewoonlijk van Joel Hruska behoorlijk lang(dradig), maar hij haalt behoorlijk wat punten aan die ik mij ook afvraag, en waar ik nog nergens een goed antwoord over heb kunnen vinden.

Daarnaast, ik kan wel een email sturen of op het MS forum vragen stellen over die punten, maar dan kan ik net zo goed tegen de muur praten, want dan krijg ik echt net zo veel nuttige antwoorden terug waar ik wat aan heb.

Maar als Tweakers met zijn 4M unieke bezoekers die vragen stelt aan Microsoft, worden ze niet beantwoord door een low level forum moderator, maar door iemand die hoog genoeg in het bedrijf zit en wel echt beleidsantwoorden kan geven, en als hij dat niet kan, iig het veder bij het hoofdkantoor van MS kan vragen.

Wij gebruiken thuis twee PC, een 3800X en een 6700K, bijde kunnen makkelijk W11 draaien, maar de oudere is oficieël niet ondersteund, en ook ik ben benieuwd naar wat ''Unsupported'' nou echt betekend.
