About this release
With this release, we will bring Office and Windows into alignment in support of the same limited scenarios. Both Office LTSC and Windows 10 LTSC will remain governed by the Fixed Lifecycle Policy. Both products will be supported for five years, and both the next perpetual version of Office LTSC and Windows 10 LTSC will be released in the second half of this calendar year.

We also plan to release Office 2021 for personal and small business use later this year. Office 2021 will also be supported for five years with the traditional “one-time purchase” model. We do not plan to change the price for these products at the time of the release. We will announce more details about new features included in Office 2021 closer to general availability.

Tenzij ik eroverheen lees, zie ik geen reden waarom de LTSC Office even lang ondersteuning heeft als de reguliere versie (5 jaar). Bij LTSC verwacht ik juist langer ondersteuning dan de reguliere versie.

Bij LTSC versies krijg je vaak nog ondersteuning op oudere updates. Terwijl bij de normale versies je vaak maar enkel support krijgt op de laatste update.

Voorbeeld: ga je voor de reguliere O365 client en zit je in de Enterprise channel, dan krijg je maximaal 14 maanden support op een specifieke build, daarna moet je over naar een nieuwe build met nieuwe features. Bij LTSC krijg je vaak wel de security fixes, maar niet nieuwe features en hoef je binnen die 5 jaar dus niet een client met nieuwe features te installeren.

Office 2021 (regulier) gaat dus 5 jaar lang supported zijn, maar waarschijnlijk krijg je alleen support als je op de laatste builds draait.
