According to the video linked above, despite whatever chipsets they're using, XBox Series X, Playstation 5 and Nvidia's 3000 series graphics cards all output only uncompressed 4K120 and 8K video signals. Supposedly HDMI 2.1-capable TVs can accept those uncompressed signals. Unfortunately, the HDMI 2.1 "repeater" chip which is used by all HDMI 2.1-capable receivers, both those available and those not yet announced, can handle only compressed 4K120 and 8K video signals. A chip capable of handling uncompressed video is not expected to be available to the AVR and pre/pro manufacturers until August, 2021. So the problem won't be fixed until their 2022 model year.
Until then, the high-end gaming consoles and Nvidia graphics cards will have go be connected directly to compatible TVs and computer graphics displays, with the latter preferably using Display Port interconnections.
I have not seen any info about what graphics signals will be provided by the soon-to-be-announced AMD graphics cards. Presumably they're using the same chip as the XBSX. Some performance numbers have already been mentioned, which suggests to me that they also are generating uncompressed video, compatible with existing displays.
